    Cincinnati area riding group

    Hey guys,

I'm a beginner that started riding about 6 weeks ago. I'm living in the Cincinnati area, and I decided that this would be a great hobby to get into. I joined CORA, but it doesn't seem like they have any forum to get together with other members. I thought there would be more opportunities to meet other riders, but I have probably only seen 1 person on a trail. I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in a group ride. If anyone in the Cincinnati area wouldn't mind letting a noob tag along, please send me a pm and we can exchange contact info.

    Thanks,
    Sherman

    Hello People!
I ran Devou today, had some mud holes and I tried to drain a few. Rest was awesome. If it does not rain tonight, anybody want to meet for a noob, beginner, just plain out of shape ride in morning 8-9am?

If you're out of shape you should meet us at EI saturday morning (7-29) 8am at the main trailhead for some strength/endurance training (volunteer Trail day)

If you get there past 8am, just follow the signs/flags to the work area!!

Get a good workout and give back a little!

You know, the last three times they have had a trail work day, I have been out of town!

Also I would give the time trials a try. Good friendly competition. Last week is this wed though

Sorry, but when it was obvious the rain was here, I figured you guys wouldn't trail work either. So, I went painting the MIL's house.

Is there an email list or something I can get on for the trail work days? Does CORA send out a newsletter?

Like your local or favorite trails on Facebook. They will post up whether the trails are open or closed and post up info like trail days...

Go to the page and click like. Once it shows liked, hold your cursor arrow over it and options will pop up. select "get notifications" when it's selected it will show a check mark. Next, select settings, and hit all updates.

You also need to make sure that your facebook is set up to send notifications and your email doesn't automatically filter to spam.

This is instructions for the full site...... Can't say how to do it on mobile.

Unfortunately, the forecast looks pretty gloomy for another week at least. It might take a good week of sunny weather to dry out the trails if there is never really any time to drain.

I don't know how prideful you are, but jumping rope is pretty good for conditioning. It's not as boring as running. Just think to yourself "boxers do it too."

If you wanna go Sunday I can make it anytime. I'll be at Hueston Woods with a couple friends tomorrow at around 2pm. They're supernoobies so they will rent bikes. I don't know if you want to join us tomorrow, but let me know if you're interested in a Sunday ride.

I am all up for Saturday morning ride. I think Sunday will be out per current forecast. We will have to see Friday what weather is really going to do.
Do you have a trail a little closer to your area you would like to try?
Idlewild or Devou are fine by me.
Anybody else care to join in?

We had 6 riders around 6:30pm Tuesday at England Idlewild here in Burlington KY.
Good ride about 10miles in just over an hour. If you need somebody to have fun ride with, post here for a time to meet.

I posted on both sites to see if they will be open providing no more rain. Yes, it did rain a ton last night, I had a cooler outside and it was 1/3 full , so couple inches at least.
As of right now I am planning on riding Saturday morning, either Devou or Idlewild. Let's see if either says open.

Yea, it rained a lot, but I'm always optimistic. We had almost a whole day to dry out. It didn't rain long here. Plus it could've rained less near the trails.

Dam. Well I can hope. I have to be somewhere in the late afternoon tomorrow, but I can ride until 4pm. I might just go to idlewild at 2pm, and if the trail is closed, I'll just fish for a couple hours.

Sherman, did you forget to screw those to your shoes ? There should have been a steel plate you put on the inside of your shoe and then you screw the cleats into that. (I think)

I screwed it in the plate, but I guess it wasn't hard enough. I haven't checked to see if I stripped the screws, but I think the rotation of unclipping made it come off. I'll put a bit of blue loctite on it so this doesn't happen again. It was just a knee bruiser. One screw came out first so I couldn't unclip.

The other thing you can do, is to loosen the tension so that they unclip easier for starters.

we got rain, not bad thou. Dried up good. Question is , did the trail in woods run dry, I am sure ground was dry and sucked it up.
How about Devou, or greg, is Christian meeting at idlewild ?
I went thru the pics..I only saw one for you greg and maybe 2 for Sherman. The 2 for me were just bad, bad and all bad. None were in water, bummer

Front tire pinch flat, then had rear tire gash on next run. Lucky I had extra tubes.

Sound like you guys had fun. I wish I could've been at two places at once today. I went kayaking for the first time at Green acres.

I cashed in my gift card on a spare tube and some hammer heed gel. I should have gotten 2 spares while I was there.

Let me know how you feel in the morning. If not, I'll be riding the local trails all by my lonesome.

Sorry Sherman, I was thinking of Versailes for a try. However, better just take dogs to park for short run since they were ignored yesterday.
Why don't you figure out a meeting place for east fork and we will try that next?

I can't make it Tuesday, but I'm free any other day. Versailles is over an hour away from me. I would have to go on the weekend. We have to make it to Hueston Woods. It's an awesome trail system. I'll go check out east fork today since I have the time. You been there?

    Keehner Park 1:30PM

Changed my mind about east fork.

Keehner park in West Chester at 1:30PM. If anyone is interested in the area.

Yeah. It's not a huge trail, but I like it. Fast enough for me. There's a Creek crossing. I've only been there once, but there are reviews on mtbr.com.
Come out and check it out if you have time.

I am thinking Versailes next Saturday. We round up someplace carpool. I can take 3 in my truck with me( I may even clean it). It is 7 bucks for a day pass. What do you guys think, a good start to the holiday weekend!

Sounds good. I'm interested for sure. I saw some videos on YouTube, and the trails look awesome.

I had my draft yesterday. That's why I couldn't ride. It's my first time I playing. I should be able to make it next week.

If anyone else is out there, let me know if you're riding.

I'm still down for Versailles if you want. I don't have a problem splitting a tank of gas with you. If not, I'll meet you at Devou around 9am or so. I heard it can get crowded up there closer to noon.

I went out to Mitchell Memorial Park. It beat the crap out of me. I fell 3 times. One of the falls was pretty bad. I went over the handlebars on a cliff. Luckily I was riding with some very experienced riders. They were able to warn me of the difficult areas, and they gave me some advice on the technical sections. Overall, this was the most technical trail I have ever seen. The off-cantour rock garden was intense. I didn't even have the courage to try some parts, but getting offf the bike and walking was worse. We were on the trail until around 8:30PM. It was very dark in the woods, and that made it even more challenging for someone who hasn't been on the trail before.

We definitely need to put that trail on our go-to list.

    Re: Cincinnati area riding group

    Need some advice guys:

I'm going to be camping September 20 (Friday) thru September 25 (Wednesday) at Big Bone Lick State Park. I'd like to ride the best trails near the Cincinnati area. Could someone give their opinion on which trails are must ride, ride if you can, and don't bother. Thanks!

    Hello,
    My opinion,
England Idlewild is close to your stay. Has some good singletrack loops, a techy punchy section, along with a nice flow runabout section.
Devou, has the elevation 800' change climb up, and goes down with some nice runs as fast as you can handle. With a nice loop at the top. You also can go across street to the "Full Monty" downhill trail. This is about 20 min farther than Idlewild.
An hour away from your stay, across border in Indian is Versailles state park. Now this is some good elevation change singletrack, nothing really fast or techy.
I think, where your staying has some singletrack also.
So, my opinion of the best, Hit Devou. You got singletrack loop up top and those downhill runs, if your into that.
All these trails you can burn 1-2hours easily.

I'm riding EI Tuesday morning, say about 10. Never been there, camping at big bone lick. Anyone wanna come out and show me around? I rode all of Devou this afternoon. Fun trail, crazy bowls. Loved it. Very well maintained.
