65 kids suspended for riding bikes to school

what message does this send to kids? they had a police escort and rode with the mayor... but

Kenowa Hills senior who organized controversial bike ride said it was 'not a prank' |

WALKER, MI – Kenowa Hills High School senior Zac Totten said when he came up with an alternative to the typical hijinks done on senior prank day, he didn’t think he’d still end up getting suspended.

But Tuesday's 3-mile bike ride to school led to the principal sending him and 64 others home on the last day of school, and prohibited them from attending the traditional “senior walk” on campus to close out the year.

Escorted by a Walker Police cruiser with Mayor Rob VerHeulen riding shotgun, students chanted and sang as they rode their bikes from the Walker Fitness and Ice Center, 4151 Remembrance Road NW to the high school, at 3825 Hendershot Ave. NW.

However, the glee ended when they were confronted at the school by Principal Katie Pennington, who had no knowledge of the ride.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous articles I ever read.
The secret to mountain biking is pretty simple. The slower you go the more likely it is you’ll crash.

Wow. I just can't see how they can be punshined for doing something percieved as dangerous while outside of school grounds.

I used to sometimes ride my dirt bike or snowmobile to school. Both were dangerous, I should have been suspended.
Heck, teenage driver's are dangerous, maybe any highschooler that drives to school should be suspended.
Maybe everyone in school that ever rides a bike is putting themselves in danger, and should be suspended.

How does riding a bike to school qualify as a "prank?"

This is absolutely ridiculous... should have posted this in the general forum rather than just Michigan subforum... this needs the attention of every member here
