2015 Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series...

For those of you in Iowa, or any of the border states of Iowa, our 13th Annual Season is about to commence on April 19th with our first of 11 races for the 2015 season.

Our website launched on November 20th last fall with the schedule.

IMBCS | Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series

And here is the link to the 2015 races.

    2015 | IMBCS

We welcome and invite all those interested in trying one or more of our races - be it from the absolute beginning racer to the most seasoned veteran. We have something for everyone! Iowa has CAT III, CAT II, COMP, and CAT I categories, with age divisions within each to offer opportunities for all racing abilities and ages. Please come and join us for XC racing at our exciting and varied venues this year. We'd love to have you suit up and race.

Race number one is a dual state series event that is part of the Iowa series as well as the Illinois series and takes place in Hampton, IL on the river bluffs of the Mississippi River. It's the Illiniwek Abermination held within the Illiniwek Forest Preserve. The FORC trail organization has been busy adding some new features and dealing with erosion control to make this first race a success. Read all about their efforts here...

    Hin und Zurück Time Trial!!!!

Next up for IMBCS is our only time trial format of the season (back by popular request) on August 8th at Center Trails in Des Moines, Iowa.

This one is unique as it is called the Hin und Zurück (there and back in German) time trial format. Every category will race a determined number of lap(s) and distance in one direction, then we will turn around and race the loop in the opposite direction with the combined times being your final time. Riders will take off in 30 second increments with race day schedule as follows...

10 AM - CAT III/Juniors = 6 miles (one lap in each direction excluding Walnut Creek/J-11 loop)

11:15 AM - Kids Race on a short loop around the Greenwood Park Pond

11:30 AM CAT II/Sport = 11 miles (one lap in each direction including Walnut Creek/J-11 loop)

1:00 CAT I = 22 miles (two laps in each direction including Walnut Creek/J-11 loop)

1:10 PM CAT II/COMP = 22 miles (two laps in each direction including Walnut Creek/J-11 loop)

    Details HERE.

Bratwurst, Bier, sides, awards, cash payouts for CAT I Men and Women, swag, treats for the kids, and a German Party Throwdown following the races.

Trail is trimmed, groomed and ready for 2 weeks of pre-riding to get your German Polka on and tuned up to dance this race. Race is open to all - whether you have raced in an IMBCS event before or not. No USAC license required. Come one, come all...

August quartet of races concludes this weekend!

August Quartet of Races concludes this weekend! | IMBCS

This weekend’s race takes place on another perennial favorite here in Iowa – Seven Oaks. IMBCS history is filled with racing at this venue and has drawn racers from all over the region.

Good News: The forecast looks like Saturday and Sunday will both be rain free which should allow any Thursday or Friday rain showers to soak in and dry out just in time for Sunday’s race. PERRRRRRRRRRRFECT!

In addition to our traditional XC race categories, this one also includes our Marathon Category Race for the dirt junkies who like to go long. Seven Oaks is the former home of 24 Hour mountain bike races, so it’s a perfect place filled with a history of going long.

    Race Details HERE.

    9:30 am – CAT III & Juniors

    11:00 am – Marathon

    1:00 pm – CAT II/COMP/CAT I

Saturday Night Camping at Seven Oaks. Thrills. Hills. Spills. New Berms. Electronic Chip Timing. Food Truck. Local Sponsors. Sunny. 80 degrees forecast for race day. Hammer Nutrition Sponsored Marathon Race Category. Prizes. Equal Cash Payouts for top overall spots in CAT I Men and Women. Race Director and trail wizzard Adam Brooks have both been working super hard to get this event ready.

Talk about a recipe for a perfect weekend of racing to round out our August Quartet!

Center Trails and Sugar Bottom helped build up your tolerance for climbing some hills, so you are all primed and ready for Seven Oaks!

Load up the cars/SUVs/vans/18 wheelers and drive the 49 miles from downtown Des Moines, 118 miles from downtown Cedar Rapids, 141 miles from Iowa City, 160 miles from Omaha, 200 miles from Quad Cities, 133 miles from Gravity, Iowa or wherever it is you park your mountain bike overnight!!! Boone is about as central in Iowa as it gets (30 miles to the west from the geographical center point of Iowa). Seven Oaks Recreation is one of Iowa’s ski areas, so there are indeed hills. Yes, tell all your relatives and friends that live in other states that we do actually have skiing and mountain biking in Iowa!

Come on out and support Central Iowa’s premiere mountain biking trail at Seven Oaks. You will not be disappointed.

IMBCS #11: The Mullet Fall Classic!

The Mullet Fall Classic is this Sunday!

The loop is 7.41 miles and includes a trip around Lake Ahquabi’s multi-use trail with additional sections that include backwood trails. You will encounter gravel, dirt, roots, ruts, grass, logs, wooden bridges, climbs, fast descents, and the best nature has to offer on this scenic course. The loop will be the perfect test of one’s fitness with all of the full throttle speed and all of the climbing, but will not be technical in nature to scare off the entry level racer. In fact, this will be a perfect venue for first timers and experts alike. Come and join the fun!

In addition to all the traditional XC categories, the Marathon Category is included as well as a FAT BIKE category. There is even a trail run at 9:30 to start the day off for those who like to run trails. Potluck and Beer Garden to follow the race as a nice year end Central Iowa party to mountain bike racing.

    All details are HERE.

IMBCS Final Race Weekend - FORC Side Thrill Ride!!!

Our Final Race is this weekend with a two day festival weekend at Sunderbruch Park in Davenport, Iowa! The FORC Side Thrill Ride promises sunshine and temperatures in the mid 70's to 80 degree range.

IMBCS set a goal going into the season of reaching 1100 participant/entries for our 11 events in 2015. I thought that was a reasonable goal based on our historic numbers for previous seasons that had 10-11 events, but would also show some growth for our series. With our rescheduled upcoming event at Sunderbruch – which will complete our entire 2015 11 race series in spite of Ma Nature forcing us to get creative for many of our events – our numbers currently stand at 1028 through 10 events.

Michael Vittetoe and FORC have cooked up a great finale for our season this coming weekend in Davenport for the FORC Side Thrill Ride. If you have never ridden your mountain bike at Sunderbruch Park – this is one of Iowa’s best. A not to miss race course that many rank as their favorite in Iowa. People drive from out of state to ride this one it is so much fun. Super fun wooden berms, a wooden party deck, bridges, obstacles, climbs, descents – this course has it all and is an absolute blast to ride.

    Sunderbruch Berm

Online registration closes this Thursday at 11 p.m., and day of registration is available for $5 more on Sunday. Camping is available on site (you’ll have to RSVP). FORC will hold a Time Trial on Saturday with prizes, a Dodge Tire and Bike Polo fun time after the TT, a group Night Ride on Saturday night (bring your lights), grilling on Saturday, and of course our final XC event of the season on Sunday with CAT III’s racing at 9 a.m., Juniors at 9:05, CAT II at 10:45, ending with CAT I & COMP at 1 p.m.. We will hold the IMBCS Series Point Winners for each age class in each category on Sunday which includes the top qualifying 3 winners in each age class with awards/prizes for the first time this year. That’s right! We have some excellent awards for the top three in each age class. In addition, qualifying racers with the minimum number of races raced this season – even if they are not a top three in their age class series winner – will also have chances to win prizes, but one must be present to win one of those special prizes. The weather forecast is for a sunny weekend with temperatures around 80-81 for Sunday’s race.

Sounds like a perfect weekend to come hang out, camp, party, ride, and race mountain bikes for the entire family to end the IMBCS 2015 season. It doesn’t matter if you are in contention for series points or not, come join us!
