Summer trip to Michigan - Troy, Clinton

The fam and I are planning a trip back to Michigan this summer to visit family. Its been 20 years since I've ridden in Mi but I recall some really fun rides. I'm sure its blown up big time since then as well. Any recommendations for trails close to Troy? How about Clinton (near Saline)? We're looking at coming out for the 4th of July.

We are also considering a trip up to the UP - will start a separate thread for suggestions on that.

    Many thanks!

    Here you go, dawg!
Plenty of trails around metro Detroit with most on the moderate side of the technical scale.

Hey Thanks! I did look at that, but was hoping for some recommendations. What do you like to ride in the area?

My preference in order, not necessarily close to troy or clinton, but not far either. Poto, Highland, Pontiac Lake, Holly. For on your way up north, Big M, and any segment of the North Country Trail, Boyne Mountain. Never really rode in the UP, i'm sure someone will chime in.

What are you looking to ride? More free flowing and fast, technical, or a mix?

Cool, I will try to check them out. I have ridden Pontiac Lake - but it was in the 90's. Haha...probably changed a little since then. It was a fun ride.

I like to ride it all - XC/FR...anything except manmade stuff (teeter totters, ramps, etc).

Close to Troy... Bloomer is worth riding and you could probably ride up to the park. From there Stoney Creek and Riverbends are only a few miles away. Addison Oaks to the north is worth a ride as well.
Close to Saline, definately ride Poto/Pinckney State Rec Area.
And if you have the time Holly/Holdridge, Pontiac and Highland.

Pontiac Lake is the "flagship" trail of the area. If you are in good shape you must try Highland. For an easy ride do Island Lake which is one of the most popular ones in the area. If you got more time definitively venture to do the Potowatomi or Brighton. Another nice one is Holdridge. I think one of the closest ones to Troy would be Stoney Creek.

+1 for Highland, Poto and Pontiac Lake in that order. Depending on your endurance you can also do Milford Trail and Proud Lake at the same time for a total of about 45 miles.
