Is a rock hopper suitable for Pontiac Lake 5-8 times per year?

    Hello everyone!

I've been using a Trek 3500 with blown suspension and probably close to 5000 mikes on it. It's about time to get rid of it and get something new!

Prior to this I've done Pontiac Lake at most 4 times per year. The rest of my time, I use my MTB for sidewalk riding with my girlfriend. Occasionally something rougher. I've been itching to try Holdridge Lakes, but never actually gone.

I told my local shop this, and gave him an ideal price of under 1k. He suggested the Specialized Rock hopper, for right around $890.

I took a look on Specialized website, and saw I'd really like the midgrade version with 10 speeds. Possibly the high end with better shocks, depending on your advice here.

Anywho: My question is given these requirements, is the rock hopper a good choice?

Ended up buying a Crave Comp 29.

Dude was a hell of a salesman, and my GF helped him. I like the upgrades though, so I think it's worth it.
