    Just wondering,
How was the Whippet 650b Change?
    BB Height Change?
    Handling Change?
    Overall Thoughts?

I will be using it on XC Racing and i really like the handling of a 26, but want the speed of a 29 so i've decided to go 650b.

The setup you have proposed should work fine. If you are going to run a double 10 speed crankset, it will work best with a 10 speed chain. If you use a 9 speed chain, the chain may rub the large ring when you are in the small ring and small cassette cog. You can run a front 9 speed mech, but you will have to be very precise with how you set it up when using a 10 speed chain. You can use a triple mech, you just need to use the limit screws to adjust it so it doesn't over shift. A 10 speed front mech works fine with 9 speed shifters. I personally would recommend the following setup if you want it to be flawless.

    1. Shifters: 9 sp
    2. Rear mech, 9sp long cage
    3. Cassette 9 sp
    4. Chainset double 10 sp
    5. Front mech-double 10sp (9sp will work if you don't mind doing a lot of tuning)
    6. Chain 10sp

If you have any questions just let me know. Good luck!

    Hi man !

Seems that you have understanding in different drivetrain combinations. ;)
Could you help me with following issue.

I race a lot, so its important to get perfect shifting.
However I hate triple chainset, as it takes lot of efforts and time to change between chainrings.

The point is that I wish to create 2x9 system.
Therefore chainset will be 10sp Dyna-sys, but all the rest parts will stay 9sp.

    Shimano XT set.

    1. Shifters 9sp (obligatory)
    2. Rear mech 9sp long cage
    3. Cassette 9sp 11/32 or 11/34
    4. Chainset double 10sp 40/28
    5. Front mech - double 10sp ? (afraid of problems with 9sp shifters. Perhaps triple 9sp ?)
    6. Chain 9sp or 10sp ?

    Regards

    and thnx
