New to me - Durance pivot bearing question

Hi

I've bought a 2009 Durance, and it arrived earlier today.

Required a little assembly , but nothing major.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to view or test the bike before buying, but the previous owner assured me everything was in good working order.

The Monolink pivot assembly has alot of play in it, and I mean alot.

Returning the bike would be a hassle I don't really want to go through.

Can anyone comment on the pivot bearings and the amount of play etc.

Is it a case of taking the pivot / monolink out and replacing the bearings?

Anyone have the bearing size / reference numbers - I suppose I can get them from a bearing supplier, but if they are special to the Durance, then where can I get them (I'm in the UK).

These are standard 6001 2RS bearings, use SKF Stainless Steel, better for UK conditions. Contact me for more details if required or to change them (I'm in France / alpatech@free.fr)

Hi,

I have found the easiest thing to do is buy 4 sets of bearing from Craig Simpson (simpsonscycleservices@gmail.com) and ask to borrow the bearing tool. Makes it much easier although the methods described about 3 posts below is very straightforward. Craig used to be the Maverick support guy in the UK. I would replace all 4 although the lower two wear more. Hope you enjoy the Durance but expect to replace the bearings 1-2x a year.

The bike is back with the original owner now - I didn't feel comfortable buying a used bike that had been ridden for some time with alot of play in the pivots.

Just didn't know the extent of the requirements to put right without taking apart. Thought it would be easier to send it back.
