    Maverick + Hammerscmidt - Monolink Adaptor = ??

I know it is possible to run a Maverick frame with a Hammerschmidt if you add the Maverick special HS adapter :-

    MAVERICK - Products

BUT it is big $$$$ at $325..........especially if you already have a functioning Monolink.

Sooooo.........is it still possible to do the conversion using something like the E13 adapter plates instead ?

    E13 ISCG 05 Adapter Plate : Bikes | Mountain Bikes | Road Bikes| Winstanleys

Or, is the Maverick kit essential ?

Apart from the 'gold' ISG plate , is there any difference between the two Monolinks other than the lack of front mech cable routing ? Is the bottom bracket shell width different?
Are there other subtle differences ?

    Thanks is advance,
    Dr FG

Not possible to fit HS on standar MonoLink ... you need the new version + adapter. But ask you another question, does HS is interesting or not ? I discussed this point with Ethan two weeks ago .. he is clearly not convinced for "all mountain", long ride with long ascent .... the program of the ML8.

much as i respect ethan's & alpamayo's experience and knowledge, i have to disagree with them on most points ...

i would be surprised if there are subtleties to the modified monolink - i simply did the math for the appropriate bb width and chopped off the noodle (unnecessary, and it only saved me 10g weight). after that you only need the adapter plate. my monolink works without a hitch.

i have no guilty feelings as the modification was done to a 2nd (standard) monolink i had bought simply as a spare - i still have the other standard monolink to hand in case i want (or need) to go back to conventional. my point being, you might still want to consider the complete maverick kit anyway so that you retain the option (HS or conventional).

yes, you can use the HS for all mountain, trans-alp, enduro & bike park - i do, it doesn't prohibit epic days in the mountains, and i also have zero regrets. yes, there is a weight penalty and some extra drag in overdrive, but if you ride appropriate tyres for all mountain & enduro (and you don't race), then you will probably not be that concerned ...

i'll be honest, an xtr 2x10 drivetrain is an attractive option, but i'm happy with my HS

mine has been on the durance for two seasons and there are no plans to take it off ... that is, UNLESS there was a new ml8 , in which case the durance would be trimmed for light weight and the new ml8 would receive the HS

    Thanks for the replies Guys

Ragetty, is it possible just to buy the gold adapter plate on its own and attach it to a normal monolink ?

    Thanks,

i thought i had already answered this ...

if you can get the adapter plate it will fit onto a properly modified monolink.

you can certainly mount it on a standard monolink, and it may even work, but it will not 'fit' as intended and thus not be fully adequate for the job ...

    Sorry, me being thick

I presume from the 'if ', that maverick will not part with the plate alone ?

When you say it will not fit 'as intended', could you please be a little more specific.

    Thanks again,

Just to update, Ethan was very helpful and I have bought the Gold ISG adapter plate for $45 just as Alpamayo indicated.

To fit a 73mm (normal Maverick width) Hammerschmidt BB, the Monolink needs to be reduced in width by approx 2mm.......However, seeing as I'm planning to use an 83mm wide one, this should be not be an issue

I just need to find a 'schmidt for a good price now !

$40 and Maverick will have your MonoLink machined down to work with the Hammer setup.
