Had a great ride on Repo today! I don't ride it much any more as I ride/race mostly using
29ers. I had forgotten how fun/fast this bike is.

I built it with Chris King hubs, Gold front, Red rear, XTR shifters, Thomson seatpost and stem, Avid Ti brakes.

I used bike to win Utah, Inter Mountain Bike Cup, 50+ class, back in 2004.

Even if I have a 7/5, a Durance and a ML8, I'm always surprised by the quality of the 7/2, its smooth kinematic ...

Great names everyone.... mine is an old skool ML7 named Acquire. Ordered in 2001, born 2/14/02. Root Beer anodized with the original CNC'ed rear shock body and Easton tubing. It has been a sweet ride for over 8 years and I am still loving it. Looking forward to adding a Durance sometime in the future.

Yours may be one of the very last bikes delivered from the first production run.

My good friend has a frame of that approximate era, named Alleycat.

About two years ago, it was ready to pull a Bluesmobile, and so was retired in favor of a Durance named Appaloosa.

I think you're right. I just now remembered a phone conversation with Frank Scurlock (now w/ Spot?) at the time I was ordering it and he did say it was the last medium frame they had. Maverick was out of the custom Psylos that shipped with those first frames so my came with a Fox Vanilla 100 which was a very good match to the 7.0 rear shock IMO. I sold the Vanilla a few years later to fund the SC32 which is still on it today. I'll get a pic or two posted sometime in the next week for anyone interested in the original frames.

ethan has cobbled parts together for me to make a 'post-maverick' ml8 - it's not here yet, and the project will take a while still ...

anyway, i got to choose the name on the headbadge - considering the 'cobbled' and 'post-maverick' aspects, i did think about frankenstein briefly (too harsh and too corny) or maybe pheonix (a bit camp), but instead i settled for:

    frankenfenix

    Astro

My ML7 (early 2002) is called "Astro".

"...Every frame we build comes with a “Serial Name” instead of a number. We poach names from sources like the writings of Tolkien and Dr. Seuss, obscure music and art, and even a few places we’ll keep to ourselves."Source: maverickbike.com

I've bought my bike two years ago in Germany and don't know it's history.
    - Perhaps it was named after Terence Wilson from the Band UB40 - stage name Astro - because of it's european selling. But its painted silver-grey!?
    - Maybe from "Astro Megaship" out of the tv-series Power Rangers in Space? (Size XL )
    - Never Mind it's based on "Astro Boy". The American title for the Japanese animated series Tetsuwan Atomu (Secret sign for Mavericks later change of production site )

Anyone knows a character from Tolkien or Dr. Suess named Astro? Maybe female

    I'll bet...

Astro was named after the dog from the cartoon series The Jetsons. Yes, I am that old.
