    Vietnam: Property for sale?

What's with the sign at the base of the power lines saying something about property for sale.

im pretty sure that Nam is land locked so it may be a surrounding property - hopefully it wont create access issues...

It would be hard to close access via the powerlines, fortunately. That's not to say that surrounding property that is used as part of the trail network couldn't potentially be impacted.

I don't ride in 'Nam, but I think it's next to the section slated for the potential new MA casino. If so, abutters probably want to cash in and sell, too. It's not clear if the casino bill will pass, though.

This state oughta take a hint from things like Vietnam and try for something a little more organic in their quest for $. We have all these great forests and shoreline yet the best idea is to tear it up for more Wal Marts, housing subdivision, and possibly casinos? Barf

There has been discussion of putting a gas station at the bottom of the power lines on the route 85 side. Minimal if no impact to the trails. The larger threat to the trails is the proposed casino. The MA House just passed a bill for building 2 casinos in MA. Passage in the Senate is likely.

Some more details on the development. Las Vegas based Warner Gaming is proposing a Foxwoods-type resort casino on 200 acres in the southeast corner of the greater Nam area. This would extend to the creek crossing south of the Dunster Rd entrance. The proposed property includes the kitchen, firewall, little moab, all the way to the tree cutting next to 495. More information on the development can be found at:

I will keep you posted on opposition efforts to this development.
