I would like to invite you to Pioneer Valley NEMBA's year-end celebration on Friday, November 30th, 7:00pm at Umass Amherst! You do not have to be a NEMBA member to come, and feel free to bring significant others! PV NEMBA will provide food and beverages - please let us know if you're coming so we know how much to order.
We did a lot of things we can be proud off in 2012 - weekly social rides, a very popular new skills clinic series, and well-attended fun events like the MBAS, Blue Groove, Whole Enchilada and Chili rides - but there is always room for improvement. Your input and help is crucial in keeping mountain biking in the Pioneer Valley as fantastic as it has been, so please join us with all your ideas, criticism and riding memories!!
During this get-together, we will also elect new officials that will be representing Pioneer Valley NEMBA for the next year. Steve Rossi, who has been doing a fantastic job leading our chapter for the past 3 years, will be retiring from his post after this season, as are most of the other officers. A huge thanks goes out to Steve, Chaz Nielsen, Dan Giroux, Chris Grello, Kris Wyman, Trevor Emond and Julianne Rossi for all the work and time they have dedicated to NEMBA and riding in the Pioneer Valley for the past 3 years - make sure you thank them next time you see them!
For 2013, we are changing the chapter structure to a simpler format that will allow more people to be involved with the chapter in roles that don't require a "Vice President" title. Additionally, we are looking to designate "Park Coordinators" for our major and minor riding areas to help keep us informed of projects we could help with, trail repairs, issues with the land managers or user groups. Most of us have our "home parks" that we ride more than other places; if you find yourself riding a particular area (or multiple areas) on a regular basis consider becoming one of the park coordinators for it! This may sound like a complaint but it couldn't be further from it: we are blessed with having TOO MANY riding locations to keep up-to-date with so we are delegating some of the work to ensure the future of mountain biking in the Pioneer Valley (as Todd put it so fittingly, mountain biking in the Pioneer Valley is like being a kid in a candy store!)!
Here are the positions open for elections:
- Chapter President: Overall representative for PV NEMBA.
- Chapter Vice President: Alternate representative for PV NEMBA.
- Treasurer: Manages chapter finances.
- Secretary: Keeps notes at meetings.
- Board Members: PV NEMBA members who want to support and be active in the chapter. Support could be in the form of organizing trail care days, leading rides, designing a website for the chapter, PR, trail mapping, etc. Your role can be as small or as big as you want / can afford it to be, and we feel strongly that "the more, the merrier" applies to this as does "the more, the more fun and the less work for everyone else"!
- Park Coordinators: Park Coordinators are the members responsible for staying in touch with land managers in each park. Their work helps us be responsive to land managers' needs, which goes a long way toward maintaining our welcome status in the parks.
If you are interested in learning more about the electable positions, would like to nominate yourself or somebody else for any of these positions feel free to email me or simply show up November 30th!
Please let me know if you plan on coming and if you have any special dietary restrictions so we have an idea how much food to get!
