Lynn Woods Trail Build Day (Saturday: September 23th)

On Saturday September 23, 2006, Dieselbikes will be holding our fifth of six Trail Maintenance days in Lynn Woods. This trail day has been approved by the Lynn Woods Park Management. Saturday will encompass building two ladder bridges of various lengths to cross sensitive wet areas. We will require a ton of volunteers to complete the job on Saturday. There will be two trail work sites that average about 1 mile for the ball field parking lot! Here is what you need to know:

Start Time and Meeting Place:

Everyone should begin to meet at the ball field parking lot (Great Woods Road Entrance) at 9:00am. We will be leaving the parking lot by 9:30 after a trail safety work review meeting and head to the job site. If you can not make it there by 9:30, come any way and just ride or walk out to the work site. We will put you to work when you get their.

Estimated Project Time:

We accept this project to take 6 hours to complete. If you bring your bike, you can be the first to ride this new trail! A group ride is scheduled by Dieselbikes after this trail work.

What to Bring:

Bring your own bug spray, snacks, lots of water; a pair of work gloves, eye protection and your bike.

What WE are going to do:

The map below shows the job site area. The first trail work site is located at the end of Overlook Trail near the Four Corners Area. We shall install a 48 foot by 35" wide ladder bridge to cross the last remaining stream crossing on Overlook Trail. This bridge will be the last key effort to resolve some of the erosion problems that Lynn Woods trails face.

The second trail work site is just off the fire road on the new downhill trail we cut back in June of this year. When you near the bottom of this trail, you pass through a small valley which becomes wet (a stream) during the rainy seasons. We shall install a 12 foot by 35" wide ladder bridge to enhance this trail and resolve the wet crossing.

All material for both bridges will be pre-cut and pre-drilled for quick and easy assembly. Dieselbikes will also bring all the lumber for these bridges to the work site (as close as possible) prior to the trail day. We want to limit the amount of lumber carrying by volunteers, but some of this will be necessary. All volunteers will need to carry tools (hammers, picks, shovels etc) to and from the work site along with water.

This should be a fun day and we hope to see many of you to help and support our efforts.
