Looking for a weekend getaway in the Berkshires

The wife and I need to getaway and we're looking for something in the Berkshires. We're looking for something that will keep us active but will also have a nice downtown section with cafes and parks and stuff. We'd like to do it on the cheap if possible.

We both road ride, kayak, and like hiking. We would also like some swimming possibilities. Any ideas are appreciated.

Try Beartown St forest. Cheap primitive camping +/-$10, 6 lakeside sites available (no dogs) or 6 just removed from the lake (yes dogs). AT runs thru park, lots of hiking trails, great mountain biking, kayaking etc. Road riding is a little tough up there, roads are kind of crappy, but banner mtb trails. Decent dirt roads if you just want to spin up to a fire tower and back. Just outside of Great Barrington, MA - great little city, excellent sushi - Bizen, Indian - Aroma, Pizza - Baba Louies, organic markets - The Co-op and Guidos, Bagels - forget the name, it's across from guidos though, ice cream - SoCo (try the High Lawn Sweet Cream, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm). Close to Lenox - Tanglewood, the Arcadian Shop - some decent riding here too. Anything I may have missed feel free to drop a line. J-

The faster you go - the rounder you get.
