    Looking for Handouts

Hey guys I'm on a part search. I have a 1997 rockhopper that has been in my buddies yard for years and I'm trying to get it going so he can get out and ride. Unfortunately he doesn't have any money to put into it right now and I'm trying to help out. The bike was really rusted but the derailers oiled up and worked nicely and brakes seem to be okay aside from needing new pads. I have the entire bike torn apart right now and I'm de-rusting everything as best I can. Once i'm done with that I'll be painting the fram on the next warm day we get.

I'm posting hear because some of the parts on this bike were beyond repair and I need a few things. I'm trying not to spend any money on this thing but would really like to get it going for a friend to enjoy. I need the following components to get this thing rolling.

twist grip style shifters. 3 and 6 speed
short grips to go with them
    a couple tires 26" 1.9-2.2
I would love to find a non rusted set of wheels but I'm trying to clean up the ones that were on it but the spokes are rusted.
    a seat
    v brake pads
    Cables,cables,cables

Obviously I'm not looking for any nice stuff here but i now from dealing with cars that people can put together quite a collection of old parts once upgrading starts. I'm hoping someone has some of this stuff laying around in the basement or garage, and would like to donate it to a good cause..

    Thanks

Walmart sells replacement cable sets for about $5. I've used them when in a pinch before.

I have a pair of 26" WTB Velociraptors 2.1 F&R lying around my apartment. Used for 1.5 seasons, about 500 miles. PM me if you want them. I'm in Lowell.

    DON'T Repaint it !

if you do you will void the warranty, and the frame has a lifetime warranty.

6 speed are you sure its a 97 ? I had a 97 rockhopper ( which the frame failed and was replaced by speciliazed last year ) and it has 7 speed

He thinks it was a 97', but wasn't sure. I honestly have no idea.

As far as painting it goes, it's a little late not to, and the warranty isn't really a concern, it's an old bike and he plans to get something newer next year if he decides to stick with it.
There were rust spots all over the place, something had to be done..
