Implications to Vietnam? Casino bill passed.

The House already passed legislation to allow casinos. David Nunes bought 500 acres and wants a $800M casino in Milford. He might get it too.

    The casino is going HERE.

Will this take away trails in Nam? Yes or no? ....I'm hoping no but I thinks it's yes.

Casino's as a means of solving budget issues are stupid. But yes, this location in Milford will most definitely take a section of trails that are on privately owned land (not owned by NEMBA) out of the picture. Areas like the "kitchen" and other spots would be lost. Sucks big time.

That's what I thought. It looks like the casinos are coming and the greater Boston casino is either slated for Nam or Suffolk Downs. If it comes the solution is to make it happen in Suffolk Downs and not Nam.

I'm freakin' surprised nobody is talking about this, organizing or protesting.

Well, it appears that Milford Selectmen have already inked some kind of an agreement with David Nunes, which likely has some momentum and possibly support from that community. If the Senate passes the bill, and gov signs it (the next step) then I believe that the final step is the town must vote to approve the project, and since it is all on Milford land, I dont think neighboring towns are part of that process. I'm not sure I am correct on this...Bottom line is it would be hard to motivate the general populous (Milford) to vote against the promise of "jobs", b/c ya know, that would be like voting against good old American apple pie, if you know what I mean. If only these same people that vote for the casino to "add more jobs" knew that in general a casino is a net downward spiral for the community it resides in...

Before it gets that far the Bill as I understand it only allow for one of the casinos to be build in greater Boston (Milford being included in the greater Boston definition). And Nunes vision is competing with Suffolk Downs.

Do if Suffolk is awarded the license or whatever it is, then Milford can't build a casino.

And you're right. A casino is a race to the bottom for the community.

Poor people funding the rest of our world is as old as money itself, and casinos are the government's best participation in that dynamic.

Anyway, one of the big swinging d*cks who pushed the legislation through represents the neighborhood that includes Suffolk Downs...hope that helps.

Also, poor people tend to take public transportation, so that means Suffolk Downs is would work better as well.

...So let's round up the poor and get them all excited about Suffolk Downs. I might (or will) burn in hell but I'll do so feeling better having Nam staying as it is.

Assuming it gets through this unscathed, I wouldn't mind seeing a fundraising like the old days to purchase the corporate owned parcels of Nam.

I talked with Rep. Carolyn Dykema of Holliston about it about 2 months ago. She was telling me that she was trying to get a rider put on the bill that would give towns with in a 4 mile radius of the casino , so say so as to what goes in. She told me she needed 82 other Representatives to support it to get the rider on the bill. I do not know if she got the rider on the bill.

Lord Knows i don't like the Idea of a Casino with 1/2 Mile of my House

    Here is what is proposed

Plans for Crossroads Casino in Milford - Boston.com

Note on the first map. the NEMBA parcel borders this on the Upper left side.

Also the Exit/enterence Ramps go right through Little Moab, the firewall and the kitchen

What the "people" don't seem to realize is that most of the jobs the casino will create will be lower paying. While I do love riding Vietnam my commute into Boston takes me past Suffolk Downs every day. On a road that is already congested I can see my evening commute home doubling. This idea sucks no matter how you look at it.
