    freeride Catamount-change in opening dates

    Owen from Freeride Catamount here!

just wanted to keep you all posted on the status of Freeride Catamount for the 2009 riding season...

Season Schedule: due to an unprecedented amount of damage from the winter ice storms this past year, we are going to be opening later than we had originally planned. Here is the new schedule for this season as of 4/22/2009:
    Opening: Saturday, June 20th
Closing: Labor Day Weekend - September 6/7 (open both days)
We are planning to be open on Saturday and Sunday on the following weekends: July 4, July 26, Sept 7 (others will be posted)

Learn to Ride Camps: we are going to be having 3 Mad March Racing Learn-to-Ride camps at Freeride Catamount this year: Saturday, June 6th, Sunday, July 26th, and Saturday, August 22nd. The camps' focus will be bike setup, core skills development, safety, and skills park/single-track riding tasks. Registration will be through the MMR website ( and you will also be able to click through from the Catamount website soon.

Skills Park: we are currently designing and building our new skills park (sponsored by Berkshire Bike and Board in Great Barrington, MA - We are really stoked about the new park and we hope you will all come out and check it out.

Event Presence: as I am sure most of you are aware, Kenda Fest is now defunct. However, Freeride Catamount will be participating in the Westchester Mountain Bike Association Fat Tire Festival being held on Sunday, June 14th. Check out the WMBA site for more information at

We will be updating the Freeride Catamount website very soon to reflect everything that is going on and being planned for this season.

I hope to see everyone out at Catamount this season. We are looking forward to a great season of shredding!

Freeride Catamount Skills Park Construction Begins - 4/24/2009

    Hi all,

We started the construction of the skills park today with a design created by Jim Dellavalle of Mad March Racing.

There will be a berm/roller track, a 2 ft and 4 ft ladder drop, a rock garden, a series of table top jumps in varying sizes, and a skinny ride to start...with lots of space for more features and expansion as we continue to grow the program at Catamount.

Here are some pictures of the first day activities:

We were also able to clear a lot more storm deadfall off the existing trails and everything weathered the winter quite well. We still have a lot of cleanup to do but that goes with the territory.

We marked a new finish route that circumvents the new Adventure Park (which looks awesome, by the way - you guys need to come and check that out this summer too) and takes you down to the top of the skills park. We also marked a couple new routes down from Upper Cat Track that we think you will all really enjoy.

I will add more pictures to the Dragonfly site above as I get them.
