    Oh I am envious.
I had a Marin, sold it for a Specialized, and when the '08s come out I want another Marin. I am looking into the Mt Vision but I will see what their new line offers.

Here's my XC hardtail, built up in Feb 2007, the frame is an '06 Pine Mountain.

I absolutely love my bike! I also have an 05 Mt Vision Pro built up with some crap parts and it serves as my Super D/freeride bike. In addition, I have an '06 Mill Valley that I use as a cyclocross/commuter bike.

I need to get a real picture of my bike, this was taken using my phone camera. I have since taken off my crankbrothers pump and installed a topeak mini pump via the bottle cage bolts.

I absolutely love the bike, the suspension works incredibly well.

    how much does it weigh?

mine is around 31 lbs. i'm trying to trim some fat off my bike and i notice u have the sl's on. i'm on 819's and thinking that's a good place to start.
  • 11-27-2007
    john85D
My Marin weighs 28.5lbs. without the CB pump. I could probably get it down to 27++lbs. if I took off all of the clear 3M protetive sticker I used on the frame (underside of down tube, seatstay, chainstay, toptube, headtube). The new SL's are a lot lighter than the old SL's that I am currently running, for sure that could bring your weight down pretty good.

By the way, my bike is a completely custom built QuadXC. I bought the Mount Vision Pro frame then installed all of my parts that I had coming off my Giant Anthem, except for the headset, fork, cables and hoses.

Yes it is. I have been riding there on and off for fifteen or so years. I got back into biking after an eight year break and headed back to my favorite place, Nam. I have been eyeballing all the drops for a year and only recently got up the courage to start hitting them. It has opened up a whole new world. The active group has built some great stuff in there. I hope to join them next year and help with some trail maintenance. Hopefully I will get some riding tips in return.

I finally have a chance to add a pick from brianhead. I moved to a new place, started two new jobs, plus school on top of that, and finally had the internet installed in our new place.
Here's a pick of my brother in-law on his enduro , brother, and me on our tara quad links before we rode dark hollow.

Bought the frame as a closeout and built it up to around 27lbs in it's current configuration. Running the Reba at 115mm and the AMP post make it a little more trail than XC. It's a pretty capable bike but that new 140mm Wolf Ridge is definitely calling my name.

I need to clean it and take some better pics outside sometime soon.

    Rock Springs changes
Well, I blew apart the Black Platinum fork so it was time to upgrade the fork. I don't know if it is the fact that it is a Pike or if its the thru axle, but the improvement in handling is unbelievable. I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me. Stiff as hell and it tracks so much better. The other big change is the handlebar. 710mm; makes the ride much more stable, especially in the turns. The other surprise.. it climbs so much better with the new bar. I shortened the stem a while back and the shorter handlebars really sucked. I don't pull directly up with the added width. Wide bars are not a fad. The alpine link should be here soon as well, which will slacken things a bit more. Thrilled with the changes and it was a deal compared to buying a new bike.

Next will be the upgrade to wider tires. The 2.1s are going to be history soon.

FWIW, the LBS where I got the fork loved the Marin frame. Not many Marins around here in Massachusetts.

My Marin Alpine Trail. Soon to have a new rear shock the shox works br that came on it is a little less than what I want. Looking at a pushed fox float its real hard to find a 7.25 eye to eye shock for this frame. I have a Marzocchi triple dropoff dual crown that I run on this frame when I don't have it set for cross country. This is the cross country set up with 6 inch rotors and Marzocchi bomber mx pro 120mm.

I had a Marin, years back, it was a 1992 Palisade Trail, hard tail hard forks, the previous owner had trashed the forks (and himself) so it had Project 2 Forks on it (Kona?)

6 gear cluster on the back, eliptical chainring up front, it was awsome, complete with friction thumbshifter, trashed those landing in a tree, TWO bottle cages, I was unstopable!

Changed to grip shifters after that, not much good, then I got some index gears, can't remember what, didn't matter, got me to the girl friend on the weekend just fine and riding with my mate in the week days.

a Mate of mine made me up a rear wheel an XT hub with a Campagnola rim, nothing special but he did the spokes (both sides) in a starflake pattern, that was awsome, he reakond that if I didnt trash that it would be good enough for him to race with.

My brother rode it some times and thought for some reason the chain needed a link removing, I didn't know he had done this, I was putting the power on in front of some cars, chaing snapped and over the bars I went.

It never rode straight hands free after that, pulled the right badly, is was good bike. Kept it a while, changed interests, didn't ride too much. My dad rides it now, its still going, though retired,

I remember stripping it all down, got the frame re-painted, pulled the wheels apart, there was wool right inside (used to round up sheep with it)

    It was good bike

that was my Marin, 1992 Palisades

Thanks. I try to give equal ride time to my bikes but I'm slowly discovering that the Quake can do pretty much what the Shockwave does for DH and what the San Andreas DNA does for AM while still maintaining it's flickability and cornering prowess. My only complaint is that I keep on snagging my pedals on rockgardens cuz it's BB is significantly lower than my two Mountain Cycles.

    but a few action shocks.

Got it a couple of months agao and have only had a handfull of oportunities to ride it - Chicksands only, a big trip to Wales is in the pipeline and there should be a day or two in the Pyrenese in August.

Absolutely love it, handles beautifully, doesn't seem as heavy as I had expected (although I haven't really tried riding it up hill yet!), really stable in the air and seems totally bottomless.

We were racing pretty hard on the dual track when the pictures were taken, the other bike is also mine, a Cannondale Prophet that started out as an orange 400 but has evolved as a snapped frame an some stealth upgrades. :D

    First Marin
Hi all! Brand new to the forums, to Marin bikes, and to the world of cycling in general. Well, I guess I have done some cycling in the past... As a kid I tore up my fair share of department store bikes, as I loved to ride. As a teen, I destroyed my dad;s Diamondback and ultimately purchased my first bike of my own.. Which was a frankenstein mash-up of leftover parts that the nearest LBS owner threw together and sold me for$100. Was much better than all my other bikes (I believe it was a MOTIV or some weird name like that?). Anyhow, it was my main method of transportation to school.

Fast forward 4ish years, I haven't ridden a bike for over 3.5yrs, and I'm 270lbs and in need of some serious exercise. So I get my stimulus check in the mail and do the smart thing.. Head to the only LBS in town (Classcycle in Novato) and buy what I could afford. Thus, I acquired my first true LBS-bought mountain bike, a 2008 Marin Bolinas Ridge:

Entry-level it may be, but I love it, and since I bought it last Friday, I havent driven my car once. Yay for infinity miles to the gallon :cornut:

As seen in the picture, I've added a headlight and a taillight, as well as a lock. Just today, I bought a Protege 9.0 bike computer, which I think is soooo cool =D Found out it was 2.4miles to get from my friend's house to home, and I did it averaging 15ish mph. Heck if I know if that's good or not, but it's cool being able to see it!

Anyhow, this has kind of turned in to an introduction post, so I'll cut it short.

With that, I return to lurking these forums :p :p :p

    EDIT: Fixed some typos.

Your ride is a beauty! I always wanted to try a Shiver myself! How does it ride compared to your SC fork? Do you feel the extra travel up front v.s. the rear? Anyway your ride looks really sweet!

Thanks! It's hard to compare Shiver to RC2X... but I'm glad I've traded RC2X for it. It's waaaay more plusher, it uses more of its travel and I have far more control over the front end of my bike on fast rocky/rooty sections. Yes, it is a ancor, yes it does flex, yes it is imposibble to find parts for it... but it works like an dream and it has a 'soul'. After only 3 weeks or so, I'm in love with 3 year old Shiver DC. This trade in is the smartest thing I've done in a long time... :D

Traded my trusted 2005 rock spring with it. US spec except pedals, bashguard and brakes which are upgraded here (Israel) to Magura louise BAT.

Mercury color wolf ridge? SWEET! A friend of mine rides a rift zone that color.

I think Marin has had a real head badhe for a while. I could be wrong though.
