    Cracked frame

Dang, it looks like I have a crack in the swingarm of my Marin. It is a 2007 Rift Zone. I'll take a pic and attach it later, right now I'm taking it to REI since they are a dealer. I'm hoping they get me back on it quickly.

congrats!!! Marin has been super cool with me on my warranty returns. In fact, the reason I had a MV, was because my 07 rift zone broke, and they didn't make that bike anymore, so they sent me the closest thing.....for free.

Well, I have a result. They offered to replace the swingarm which was fine. My other option was to do a frame upgrade for $440. The problem is that the upgrade is to a 2008 frame. That seems a little bit messed up to me, if I am paying for an upgraded frame, shouldn't it be a 2010 or 2011 instead of one that is 3 years old?

Is this the offer from REI acting on behalf of Marin? or Marin directly?

This is from Marin directly. It doesn't seem fair and I will be contacting them tomorrow.

Looks like a manufacturing defect to me. It's not a catastrophic failure. And you noticed it before there was a large failure. Keep us posted.
On a separate note, I just bought a 2010 Alpine Trail for a smokin deal, and I would create a new thread, but apparently you can't make new threads without have 5 posts? Even in the beginner's section...

Yeah, that doesn't seem right. I broke my 2007 Rift Zone and they replaced it for free with a 2008 MV. Actually, I paid for a new shock, not the frame. What bike are they offering you? If they were offering you a 2010/11 bike, I would understand, but for a 2008 that's sitting around doing nothing, I would think they could certainly offer that for free. They should.

Why should they give you a new frame when it is only the swingarm that is broken, and they are offering you for free?

They may give you the option to pay a little more for the later frame if you ask them ? They may have just been trying to keep your costs down? After all it is a 5 year old bike which is probably not even worth the price they are offering you to upgrade.
I have little sympathy for anyone crying to a forum without dealing with the mfg first,of any bike brand.

It is a 2007 frame, mine was an '08 though. I tried getting a 2011, bu the said they weren't in stock yet. Although that would have ment a frame and a shock.

I actually called Marin, the man handling my warranty told me he wouldn't be able to talk to me about pricing or anything and that I needed to talk to REI about anything. I was simply trying to cut out the middleman. So I called REI, explained to him that I could get the full 2010 bike for $999 here instead of paying them $440 for a 2008 frame: http://cgi.ebay.com/Marin-Mount-Visi...item415ac9db41. He then told me that I would have to pay $50 shipping on the frame itself. I am just relaying facts here, and I am getting upset that other people were able to get the 2010 for the same price. REI is going to get back with Marin and hopefully this will reach a happy resolution.

Those that got better deals on replacement frames may have had a newer bikes or cracked frames not just a swing arm? Probably depends who you deal with too I guess?

I would have liked to talked to the guy to understand the reasoning, but he refused to talk to me about it.
