Here's my Niota. I love my (heavy) litespeed! Bought it after an asskicking DH ride near Santa Cruz, and have since turned it into more of a DH bike than the mid-travel FS xc bike it was intended to be. 140mm thru axle fork, bashguard, tensioner, saint crankset & kona pedals, 2x9 drivetrain with midcage saint rear derailleur, and big honkin' knobby tires (2.35 rear, 2.5 front)

You might wanna watch the rear triangle for cracks. DH is not exactly what this frame was constructed to do. Other than that, great looking bike.

Looks like his might be the all-Ti version.
Steel is real...Ti is fly...carbon fiber is good for constipation.

Nice bike, it's the same large all-ti frame like mine. I'm riding it since 2006 mostly in rough terrain and it's still ok. take care and have fun!

I check the welds pretty regularly for cracks after having read all the frame crack horror stories and it's held up well to all my thrashing. I'm not a heavy guy, but I've definitely put the bike through some stuff. It's handled Northstar abuse, Santa Cruz DH, Oat Hill Mine rd trail in Calistoga, jumps, bails, so I'm pretty comfortable with its strength.

Can't wait 'til its got a Ti bar and seatpost.

Nice bike, it's the same large all-ti frame like mine.
    Thanks!

How would you compare the Al and Ti Niotas?? Got a buddy who might be looking into an Al one with the newer rear triangle with the the single machined 'Y' instead of the 2 tubes welded together like ours. (As seen in post #33)

    1990/91 Litespeed

So this is what happens when you have time, a frame and a bunch of misc parts sitting around.
I bought this Litespeed some time ago for the parts group that was hanging on it and sold the frame on ebay. When the fella that bought it got the frame he went to clean it and found a very small crack(see photo) in the headtube where the breathe hole meets the downtube. I took the frame back and refunded his money. When I got the frame back I showed it to 3 different frame builders, all of which have many years of welding Ti under their belt, and asked their opinion on what happened and what if anything could be done about it. All three said the same thing, nothing could be done but to ride the heck out of it because they all believed that the crack had been there for a while and was not going to get any worse. The crack starts at the inside of the hole and stops right at the weld. All three said that the weld stopped the crack from going any further and would keep it that way. So…….what to do?
The frame had been hanging in my storage unit for some time until today. I brought it home and decided to build it up using some parts I have had. I tried to keep it as close to period correct as I could. I feel I built as if I bought it new in 1990 and then sometime around 1992 I decided to upgrade a little. I am having trouble with the seat tube sizing so if anyone knows what it should be please let me know. I think 28.6 but not sure. Right now I have a couple of shims in it to make it work. I took it for a spin around town today as it was sunny but cool and it rides great. The elastomers in the Manitou have been replaced with Speedsprings I got from a friend so it rides better than before.
So now this has been added to the stable. Hope the wife does not notice.
    Happy New Years all!

Since I can't edit my previous post... For those other Niota owners out there who who wondering, I thought I'd make mention of the fact that I've confirmed 185mm rotors fit the rear triangle, it looks like 203/205 would rub or come too close to the chainstay.

That is one nice 25th Anniversary XLM!

I just visited MerlinBike.com and I guess they will be coming out with new bikes? The best thing that happened to them is moving as far away from ABC (American Bicycling Co).

Has anyone had luck with fitting the Disk adapter for 2000+ litespeeds on to an older model? Say a 1994 Obed??

Thanks Bro Levir, I dont know exactly, my LBS told me that my Merlin XLM is the last mass production items..before i was waiting the frame like yours, but never come, untill my LBS informed me this frame, but this frame is little bit heavier than your frame..

Rear triangle finally ended up cracking at the base of the 'y' stiffening section where it is welded to the chainstay/pivot tube. It's like worse than getting dumper. NOOOOOOOO, my bike!!! Well, now i'm on the hunt for a fabricator that thinks they can repair and beef it up. Waiting on litespeed to tell me whether or not they still sell the ti-rears, I'm gonna be pissed if they only offer me the v3 Al rear.

    **Officially pissed: "Dear Patrick,

Thank you for sending your request to us. I have double checked with the repair department and we do not make a ti rear end for repair. The only option you have if you would like your bike repaired is to have an aluminum rear end for the Niota. The cost for the repair would be $250 + shipping.

    Best regards,

    Hey tifan,

You XLM 25th Anniversary surely looks lots beefier than my 2009 XLM. I am sure it rides like a dream!

    What size is that?
