Using RC Car 2 cell LiPo with Solarstorm X2/X3 lights?

I am looking for my first light and came across the Solarstorm X2/X3 but consensus seems to be that the battery packs they come with are rubbish.

These lights are shipped with 8.6v batteries and since I have quite a bit of high quality 2cell RC LiPo batteries I was wondering if I could use those?

A fully charged 2cell LiPo puts out 8.4v which is close enough to the battery packs these come with but of course my RC car LiPo's will be of much higher quality.

I have 2S LiPo ranging from 5000-5800mAh and 20C-50C discharge.

Yes, you can make an adapter or I believe I have seen them sold as well. You will need a low voltage alarm or voltage indicator of some sorts to ensure that you don't discharge too far

I have converted 2 RC packs to bike light usage. I pulled the protection circuits from some crappy chinese lights and spliced/soldered them into my RC packs. I kept the balancing lead attached for charging/balancing. Seemed to work well enough. I don't rememebr specifics but I did find some other threads/guides to help through the conversion.

Though, I bit the bullet and just bought some quality lights last season anyway (GloWorms) so I don't really mess with them anymore.

Will work perfectly. 5000 mAh will give you good runtime & you will go nowhere near 20c discharge - more like 0.5C.

If you are planning on using them in both the RC Car & bike, just make up an adaptor using an extension lead. RC low voltage alarm also work well.

Yes you can use RC lipos. I use them for about 2 years with PCB that cuts off at 3V/cell:
