    Serfas new 80 lumen taillight. -- USL-TL80

Looks like serfas has a new taillight that will replace the USL-60 (moon shield equiv).... This new light is called the USL-80.

I may get one to try out against my already super impressive TL-60.

    Here is a link.

    Thoughts?
I'm a big fan of the original Moon Shield ( sister product of the Serfas's ) I have no doubt that the TL80 will be a nice lamp. On the other hand I think the MSRP of $75 is WAY TOO MUCH. The mode selection is also not as good as it could of been. There needs to be a lower output available when in flash mode.

My suggestion; buy the original Moon Shield ( or original Serfas sister product ). The Moon Shield used to go for $45 and I thought that was a lot of money.

Now if I could buy the TL-80 for just over $50...maybe. All things considered, The Cygolite Hotshot is the best Bang-for-the-buck as far a rear lights go.

if it's really $75 that's dangerously close to Light & Motion Vis 180 which is $80 and even NiteFlux Red Zone 4 which is $99.

I got the USL-TL80 today in the mail. Couple things to note...

    1) there is no low flashing mode.
    2) it turns on to low steady (not really a low sort of more like a medium)
    3) the beam pattern is a wide rectangle "=====, vs the single hotspot of the TL-60 that looks more like a "O".
    4) the 20 lumen difference is not that noticeable.
    5) the light intensity is so much in any mode that you cannot visually notice the low power indicator when it comes on. Not at all.
    6) the packaging says 5 modes -- 2 solid and 3 flashing but the light itself only has 4 modes... "Low" steady, high steady, flash, alternating flash.

Serfas has not published any runtimes for the remaining modes as of yet. I called to ask about them and was told that they all have to be rerun since the final product has a larger capacity battery.

I will run them both (TL60 and TL80) tonight and see what i think.
