Nightlightning news
In these difficult times when the market is flooded with the MS and its clones, there are two companies that offer (or will offer) commercially available lighting systems with the latest Cree XP-G LED. One is - as everyone knows - Lupine, both the Betty and the Wilma will be upgraded, significantly increasing light output and probably quality.
However I just checked the Nightlightning website (anybody remembers these guys from "Down under" (and below)?), and they are the second (AFAIK) to jump on the upgrade train - all NL lights will be available with XP-Gs (upgrades also, I guess).
Also, when you'd think seven LEDs are enough (by the way, have you heard about another German company, offering a new Betty alternative?), you stumble upon this:

Nine is the new seven...

550 - 650 euros is the price listed on the german light, the other site simply states coming soon. For that price I would rather mount 6 Magicshines, you would look like rally car going down the road, but imagine the lumen output.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in expressing my thoughts. I didn't want to start another "MagicShine vs XYZ" thread, I was just curious to find new products (and companies) emerging.
I don't want to buy this light (or the other German one, for that matter), I just wanted to share with you what's happening around the world... that you may not be aware of.
Just because you married recently it doesn't mean you can't turn your head if a blonde/brunette/redhead walks by you on the street... if you see what I mean ;-)

Nope
9 XPG > 3 MC-E
Woot for nightlightning.
Ignoring the stupidly high brightness levels...
Probably a good enduro solution with ~600lm at 4W.

If they tune the beam properly with use of a reflector and specific lenses per LED or cluster or a customized lens like the Seca tries to achieve, you can have a 3000 lumen light that is not too reflectively bright at all. Next year will be a good one, I'm sure.

They have been over-engineering their cooling for a while.
I think it will be ok.

Potential new battery....
I found this surfing around the web. Probably several years away from production....
(PhysOrg.com) -- A spinoff company from Arizona State University plans to build a new battery with an energy density 11 times greater than that of lithium-ion batteries for just one-third the cost. With a $5.13 million research grant from the US Department of Energy awarded last week, Fluidic Energy hopes to turn its ultra-dense energy storage technology into a reality.

There is a TON of money going into battery and fuel cell research right now. I think we can expect to see some very exciting battery technologies in the next several years.
