The Magicshine battery occupies a sweet spot in terms of value and performance. For its price range its connector is secure enough, and from my experience water resistant enough.
The Magicshine connector is used by quality light builders/designers such as Gemini and Gloworm, in their own high quality batteries. There is growing interest in China made clone designs with Magicshine *compatible* connectors. Lastly the availability of Magicshine batteries from such vetted dealers such as Action LED Lights, who stand behind their products adds convenience, moderate pricing, and takes away the questions of sketchy no-name China batteries.
If all of this doesn't create a base industry standard, imo it probably should. These are my opinions, for which I have and will continue to validate with my wallet.
If there's an interest, I'd like to create a listing of:
- light systems using the Magicshine connector
- light systems using Magicshine *compatible* connectors
- batteries using the Magicshine connector
