    Decent 808 XM-L2 clone?

Thoughts? Looks (if the pic represents the actual light) exactly like the 808 down to the OP reflector. Really want a brighter spot for the helmet to compliment the Yinding on the bar.

The lamp you linked to is using deceptive advertising. First the lamp is listed as "Magicshine" and then when you scroll down to the product description they issue a disclaimer ( that the lamp is not a Magicshine ). It also only has two modes. The 808's have three steady modes and one press and hold flash. Hard to beat the price listed for lamp head only. Great price for someone on a tight budget.

If I were in the market for a cheap helmet lamp ( with tight beam pattern ) I would consider one of the Xeccon S-12 clones ( * although the S-12's usually only have two steady modes ). For lamps using just a single XM-L emitter the S-12 type reflector provides the best throw ( IMO ). On the other hand the 808 reflectors provide respectable throw with a slightly wider beam pattern. Both work very well on the helmet.

This is not to say that there aren't other single XM-L clone lamps that will work. I'm sure there are. I'm just saying that if you have either the 808 ( with XM-L U2 or XM-L2 ) or the S-12 ( with the same ) both work really well as helmet lamps ( I own both types ).

You know I just spent the last half hour looking for the old S-12 clones. They used to be all over ebay and now I don't see them any more. Tons of the the 808 style clones though, not to mention there are so many Solarstorm X2 clones that they are practically giving them away.

Went ahead and picked it up (the one in the link in my first post); ~$21 delivered..really...not worth posting about

This will give me an extra lighthead as I already have 2 good batteries. Just interested to try the newer XM-L2 (vs. my older P7) in the 808-type light for my helmet spot-light. We will see what shows up...that is part of the fun of "Chinese light roulette"!
