Bottom line about lights, batteries and chargers.

Batteries have been around forever. They get better with different chemistries, capacities and voltages, but they do not get any more safe. It seems as though 99% people are too irresponsible to have things with rechargeable batteries. It doesn't matter if its lead-acid, ni-cad, ni-mh, li-io, li-po, any battery will blow up with a dumb person or dumb charger. The smart chargers have been around for along time (I've raced r/c cars for many years). These smart chargers are for peaking, discharging, balancing, fast charge, slow charge, trickle. Even with one of these, an ignorant person can still blow up batteries. People expect to be able to leave a battery charging, unattended, overnight, or whatever are just asking for trouble. If you are smart you should be able to use a dumb charger just fine. if not, stay away.
