    USB Charger from light battery

Nothing too exciting, but still sorta neat. I soldered a Magicshine battery connector to a DC/DC regulator with USB outputs. So, I can now charge usb devices (tablet, phone, etc) from my Magicshine/Gemini/etc batteries. Great for camping.

Here is a link to the cheap DC/DC regulator ($9.99):

You'll probably only be able to use about half the capacity of the battery pack. I believe these DC to DC converters need at least a 2V drop to operate correctly. The bike pack starts at 8.4V fully charged and drops to 5.5 were the PCB cuts it off. Since the USB needs 5.2V the converter needs 7.2V which is just over half way down the discharge curve. The listing calls for 8V min.

Re: USB Charger from light battery

I believe you are correct, which is why I switched to using my baja designs battery pack. That one is plug compatible but 14.8v.

I got one of these on flEbay https://touch.ebay.com/tablet/item?i...14687605&rd=vi

and modified it with a Magicshine -type male connector, so I can run it off any of my battery packs or 18650 cells.

That looks pretty cool. I have some nice 3400mah Panasonic 18650's that would probably work nicely with that charger.
