Upgrading my own DIY light from 2010 Cree XR-E to ????

    Hi

I have a homemade helmet light that I really like. It is super light weight so I hardly feel it on my head.

    It currently has a 3021 Buckpuck driving a cree XR-e at 1amp that I built in 2010.

I am out of touch with current LED technology.

Can I replace the XR-E with something that uses the same optic Cutter Electronics
and the same driver (running at 1amp) and will give me more Lumens?

I will only be interested in reccomendations if I can the new led from either deal extreme or Cutter and that it comes presoldered to a 20mm star

    Many Thanks

    Richard

You could go with the cree xpg or xpg2. You would get more lumens but get more flood in the beam pattern. I do not recall seeing anyone use the optic you linked on the xpg, but I think it would work.

There is also an XPE2 which will give a narrower beam than the XPG.

Thanks, I would like a bit more flood, so an XPG sounds good. Whats the difference between the XPG and XPG2?

A little newer with a different substrate technology. More lumens outside of the cool white tint. Rated at higher temps. Tiny bit narrower beam.

And it can be pushed way beyond 1.5A that it is rated for.
