I thought I would write and let you know about a project I am working on called TierraWiki. TierraWiki blends Google Earth, Wiki, and GPS technology to make discovery, sharing, and visualizing route information easier. The site revolves around using the GPS as a tool to collect data on routes and then, of course, also use it to find your way around unfamiliar routes. It also provides both a traditional web interface for discovering routes as well as the ability to geo-browse for trails through Google Earth.
We are still under a year into the project but already have mapped over 130,000km of trails on the site across a wide variety of activities (mountain biking, hiking, road biking, mountaineering, etc.). If you are interested in learning more, have a look at:
Of course, I would also be interested in hearing what you think about the site as well.
