Optics. Using an xre lens with an xml.

I wanted to use a 15mm lens with a xml u2, but all i can find are 20mm xml lens. So if i use a 15mm xre lens, will it work? or will it melt or throw some odd beam pattern?

This is my first light build attempt and i dont really know what im doing.
Are there any 15mm xml lens i could use?

I don't think I have ever seen anything smaller than 20 mm for an XML. If the XRE optic fits the XML dome it may work to some extent. Not likely to be a great beam as there is a huge difference in die size between those two LEDs.

The XRE led is very similar in dome size to the XML. I used ledil square XRE optics in my twin XML but needed to do grind down the optic holder to match the focal distance to the XRE optic-led dome. You can do this easily by looking at the CAD drawings of the 2 leds and working out the difference from the led pcb to the top of the dome. From memory it was only a mm or so

    Cheers
