    newb 18650 charger question

I've got a ryobi smart charger for my batter powered tools that says it will charge li-ion batteries its dual use. I've got what I hope are 4 18650 sony batteries on the way. Can someone point me to some threads about how to wire my charger for these batteries or give me an idea of how to wire them up to the charger. Individual cells and not a pack. thnx

Post some info about the charger. Volt rating, Amp rating. This info is needed to advise on a solution.

Well about the only info they provide is that it charges 18V battery packs - no other info available....can I measure the output?

A 5 cell 18650 battery wired in series is a nominal 18.5V and fresh off the charger at 21V. So if that charger is truly able to charge li-ion battery packs you should wire your pack as 5S. A 4 cell 18650 pack is 16.8 fresh off the charger so 18V would be overcharged.

A quick look at the charger you linked sounds like it "looks" for some signal from the battery to determine how to charge it. That may be difficult to replicate in a DIY pack.

Best bet. Get a hobby charger for your 18650 setup.
