    Luminous DIY

Does anyone know of an alternative or similar battery holder to these by LuminousDIY?:

Luminous DIY - High performance "Build It Yourself" Light Kits

These are the nicest I have seen, but sadly are unavailable as far as I can tell.

    You help is appreciated!

Luminous used to be a pretty regular poster on this board a couple years ago. IIRC he posted about closing up quite a while ago in the face all the cheap import lights and the availability of 18650 holders from places like Digikey. I used to make my own 18650 holder but it involved a couple hours on a lathe and mill to make the pieces. Add another half hour to assemble and solder connections. Now for ~$8 in MPD holders from Digikey and a half hour to assemble and solder I can have a 4 cell holder.

If you make your own 4 cell batteries I may have just the thing for you. I made some 4 cell holders which are fully sealed. Let me know if you want some more info...

Those are really good Deesta. How much head room do they have?

    Hey Brad
Thanks, they worked really well. By headroom do you mean 'how deep are they?'
The cases are 42mm square and 80mm deep. From what I can find the 18650's are about 65mm long bare so should be around 15mm of space in the top/bottom.
    Cheers

Thanks mate, I was really pleased with them. Errm... 7.50 + post?

edit: I use these to hold them on the bike: Universal Nylon Mount for Flashlights and Lasers - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Really good hold and will fit bars or stem. IIRC I had to find a slightly longer velcro strap for the battery tho...will have a look and see if I've got any left to get the length..

I am interested as well....what connectors / where are you sourcing connectors for the top connection?

The connectors I've used are just 2.5mm DC extension cables cut to the right length. The fitting on the end of the case tightens around the cable to seal it...like this one:

    LEAD, DC EXTENSION 2.5MM 3.0M - JR8307 3M - PRO ELEC

I'm pretty sure I've got a few cables left and some female DC sockets to suit too. Or you can cut the cable in half and use one end of the cable to go to the battery and the other end to the light?

that comes out to about $12.01 US dollars, according to Paypal's conversion tool. How many do you have available, and can you estimate what the shipping would be for 2 of these to US zipcode 71291?

    Hi mate
I've got 2 that are ready to go. I've got 6 in all but need to get some cable glands for the other 4 which I'll hopefully get early next week.
For 2 the shipping would be about 6.50. That's based on 2 cases, 2 cables and 2 sockets. It would be lighter/cheaper if it were just the cases. I'd be happy to refund any money if it is less than that tho ;-)
    Steve

    edit:
I've actually got 3 complete and 4 without cable glands (glands on order though)
Price of postage for 2 cases without cables in should be no more than 5.00

    Hi guys.
If you're still interested in the cases:
I've got 7 cases available all with cable glands now fitted.
I've also got 4 extension cables and 4 DC 2.5mm sockets.
Drop me a PM if you are interested and we can 'discuss' a price.
I'm not desperate to get rid of them but I'm not using them...I am advertising them elsewhere too as I'd like to get some money together for some bike upgrades :-)

Thanks for getting back to me. I have the 18650 cells but lack the ability to wire a pack up!

No worries. I've got no skills to solder batteries either.
