    Bare MC-E qs

    Hi All,
I recently got a couple of bare Cree MC-Es. After getting them I researched a bit more and realised that most people use them mounted on a star. Doh. So, has anyone successfully used bare MC-Es? Any tips? (attaching heatsink, hand soldering, optics). Any help gratefully received. TIA, Brian

there are people that have used bare die. It generally requires a lot more work and some machining. You can get bare boards and soldering them using a frying pan doesn't look that hard. Pretty sure you can find videos on youtube

Bare MC-Es have been used before. You could also use 6mm square copper rod and solder emitters to it instead of gluing them. Or even use 6x6mm copper square tubing and run some water through to keep things cool.
