4 months on and where are the XML optics

The XML has now been out for about quarter of a year but no sign of new optics from the main makers .

just had a look at the ledil site and it has removed the Iris from the xml range

so we are left with messing about trying to find the utopian optic from what is available
come on Ledil / Carclo / Khatod lets be haveing something to play with .

On a simple ceiling bounce test I did with that DX pill when it first arrived I am very impressed with them. Pity I couldn't "The Mother F#$ker" working in time for this weekend or I would have been able to get some good beam shots.

i modded one of those OP DX XR-E drop in module reflectors for the XM-L and it out throws anything I have. slightly tighter hotspot than regina, but with similar spill. It's my weapon of choice for helmet mount now

    I probably have some extras...

this is the drop-in that i have
    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/cree-r2...m-x-29mm-11836
And i'm fairly certain this is just the reflector, it has the same dimensions and led specs:

There was another thread that somebody used the 18mm version and reported good results, though i don't remember seeing beamshots.

FWIW I like the Eva Narrow and Iris pair I have. I am buying a camera that as a side benfit will document them properly, I hope. The Iris throws better but has a lot of spill too at 1.4 A. I haven't let 'em rip at 3 A yet.

It really does seem strange that there are not more optics yet. We may have only had 4 months to play with the XM-L, but you know that the optic makers must of had a few more months on top of that.

Ledil removing the Iris form the XM-L page. What's up with that? Makes no sense at all.

Ledil just started putting xp-g specific optics not too long ago. For the longest time they simply had relabeled xp-e optics.

I tried the 18mm OP from DX, but it didn't out-throw the Regina.
It had a more even beam and less of a hotspot.
I ended up sticking with the Regina, as I like throw for my helmet.
The bigger reflector linked here is probably a better thrower.

I'm making a few light sets using XMLs, and am going to be running the reginas for the helmet, and 18mm OP reflectors from DX on the bars.
I'll try to get some beamshots, but it may take me a while.

Nothing new but I am again going to spruik This smooth DX reflector. I used the reflector, brass slug and star in my XML dual XPG build and am very happy with it. The rain has just started again here, if it stops tonight or tomorrow I will shoot down to my local trail, put al foil over the xpg's and take beam shots of the xml

I also bought some of the 18mm ones linked above but have not yet had a chance to play with them.

One thing to note with first one I have used is I rode some new single track the other night for the first time. It was an extremely tight, twisty trail that I was completely unfamiliar with and there was the odd moment where I felt I could have used a wider helmet light to help locate the trail, around the corner, through the scrub. Open or flowy trails though and it is great.

How have you found riding with the aspheric?

Ledil have a load of xml lenses, its just finding where to get them from..
Go here and on the right use the product finder, http://www.ledil.fi/node/2/
    you'll get 43 hits

They all look like reworks of the XRE/MCE lenses etc

I'm not sure I'd bother, if I were you. I upgraded a mate's Doubleshot with XM-Ls, one Regina and one of those 18mm DX metal reflectors - the Regina blew it out of the water. The DX one had a slightly smoother beam but no hotspot and was dimmer overall. Might be better in a light designed for it (the DX reflector came up a bit short of the plexiglass), but I'd rather use a Regina or a Laura-RS.

Ofroad'bent has some XM-L optic samples coming soon, I think the link is in his "Laura RS" thread

"Coming soon" could mean anything, sadly. No sign of them yet.
