    Raijin 100mm vs 120mm

    Hi,

I have a Kona Raijin with a rohloff which I ride abour 5 times a week, the bike is pretty much great in every way. The exception being my forks, Reba RLT dual airs.

The forks were pretty good as new, apart from they did and still do sit un loaded at about 8% travel. (I've deffinately messed around with the negative air but cannot improve on this without ruining the ride of the fork completely.

Considering that I have a pretty much unused full suspension bike with a SID RCT3 120mm fork on I was considering using the SID on the Kona. Now although the sid is a solo air, it still sits at about 5% into its travel unloaded.

Has anybody tried a 120mm fork on a Raijin at all? I could changee the travel on the SID but its a 70 spring assembly to do so, even doing the work myself! And then, I could choose 110mm or 100mm travel at the time of purchase...

I dont want to ruin the ride or invalidate the warranty, but also dont really want to splash 70 if I dont need to....

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

I'm curious also. I've heard of folks running their Units @ 120mm and it was fine. Since these two bikes are pretty similar I bet it'd work.

I've been wanting to try this too. In fact, ordered a Tower Pro120, but it's back ordered. I recall there are quite a few people running it at 120 if you browse/search around some of the Raijin setup threads, etc. Found this review where the guy called Kona and they okayed running the 120: First Impression: Kona Raijin Ti hardtail | Dirt Rag Magazine

Right on. I read that too, missed the info you pointed out. I think I'm gonna get one of these and put a 120mm fork on it. I've got a Dual Position Pike (120-150mm) that I'll leave in the 120 mode. Should be interesting!

I have been rocking my Raijin with a Fox 120mm and it's perfect.

My frame just arrived and I'm planning to use my Fox 130. Used it previously on my Krampus and it was pretty awesome. Looking forward to the slacker head angle...

Ive had the 120 Tower Pro on it for a few rides and it's great. Not too tall and light on the climbs at all, and feels great on the downhills.

    Pics or it didn't happen...j/k

That's a 140mm Pike reduced to 120mm. I'm waiting for the Process 111 frames to become available, so thought I'd go ahead and drop the Pike in preparation for that frame and use it on this one in the meantime.

Hope to get out on it this weekend. Sucks only the "garage" pic, but finished it last night and no time to get it outside for proper documentation.

    Nice shot SCRX.

Is that a 2.2 Ikon on the rear? I tried a 2.35 with the sliders all the way forward and it just brushed the chainstay bridge, so no go. My 2.2 fits fine though...

Yeah, 2.2 Ikon. Works well for this bike and the rides I like to do on it. What are you running in front?

That front wheel has a Maxxis Minion DHF 29x2.5 tire on it. Super heavy but great traction. Good for winter riding.
