    2014 Precept DL

Here's my Precept DL. All stock.

No upgrades planned this year. Hope to destroy a few parts such that upgrades happen organically. I'm thinking a fork upgrade may be the first thing.

Just brought this frame off Ebay lol, I don't have a head-set press so no idea how I'm gonna install the head-set. Also can someone give me advice on fitting forks, as I don't know what to measure, thanks

Exactly twenty years between them, and there has definitely been some evolution, but the old CinderCone is still going strong and a fun ride (converted to single speed with track-ends some years ago).

Hello everyone, I have posted before, but since then (more than a year ago post #7823 Thread: Let's see those AM setups), there I have a new rear hub (specialized) and new mavic rim, also other tires and my favorite, the Hope seat post clamp. It is very well made and the design let you easily adjust the angle and the force of the clamp:

    Hello everyone,
I'm Todd from New Hampshire just picked up a 2014 Kona Lanai. Bone stock for now and could use any advice as to what upgrades would be best. Post your Kona's!(and introduce yourself)-screenshot_2014-09-07-22-21-54%5B1%5D.jpg

Wazzup Todd! Congrats on your purchase. Kona makes great bikes. Everyone's recommendations are gonna be a different, but I'll share my opinion since we own a Lana'i as well (it's a 2011 and it's my son's).

I think most will recommend a wheelset upgrade first to make things lighter. I would wait on that until you "taco" the front wheel in a crash, or get bored with the current wheel set, whichever comes first. The following are the upgrades I would recommend in order:

    1. Fork: Get at least an entry level air adjustable fork with rebound adjustment.

    2. Rear derailleur: Get an XT Shadow Plus - prevents chain slap and drop. Quiets the drivetrain.

    3. XT rear shifter: Has nice double up-shifting and quad down-shifting plus you can push or pull for up-shifting

    4. Go 1x8: Remove all chainrings and install a Narrow-Wide chain ring in the tooth count of your choice in the middle position to convert it to a 1x8. Also buy a 9-speed chain to do this as it will fit the Narrow-Wide chainring better. The 9-speed chain should work fine on your 8-spd cassette. You'll find that you spend most of your time in the small or middle ring on the trails. I converted to 2x10 on my Hei Hei an I love it so much better than 3x10, but I'm kind of wishing I had just gone all the way to 1x10 now. If you go 1x8, you can get rid of the front shifter and derailleur and cable.

    5. Brakes: Upgrade to Shimano M445 or better. I don't really have experience with the Tektros. I just hear about people upgrading them. However, if you are happy with them and they work sufficiently, then you might leave well enough alone here.

    5. Wheelset: Get whatever you can afford that is lighter and stronger.

Please keep in mind, this is just my opinion based on my own XC riding in Texas. Take care and have fun!

Nice... looks like you took mine. I was told mine is out 2 weeks after being told they were in stock.

Post some pics please after it gets built up, and have some fun with it.

Edit: obviously only joking, I know you responded that you ordered yours well before me. Again have some fun with it, and post a review if you get some time.
