I have a Kona Kahuna as well... an 02 I might add. Walked into a bike store looking for a full-suspension bike after doing some kayaking last summer, and there it was. Took it out for a ride up to the park in the city of Fayetteville, down some trails, handled pretty well, felt good. Came back, dropped 600 bucks on it, and rode away. The only thing I don't like is the rear shock doesn't have a lock-out. It's a little bit heavy, but good enough for Captain Thurmond's Challenge, Black Bear, etc. The only pic I have is an action shot... so:

Here is my cherished Kula who recently bought the farm. The diagnosis ?... broken top tube. Thanks to Kona for honouring the warranty and replacing my hardtail with a King Kikapu.

Kona's a great bike company. I've had three Konas.

Was that Kula an aluminum hardtail?

I'm one of 'em Kona steel or titanium hardtail or "just give me a Stinky" fan. I like Coilers also. (But i'd trust any Kona bike)

Yeah it's an Easton Ultralite aluminum frame. I had a steel frame before it (Lava Dome). broke it too and got warranty. I really noticed the difference in frame materials when I first rode the aluminum. I thought my teeth would pop out. It only took awhile to get used to it and and really love the stiffness of the frame. Very fast! It's going to be hard to go to a full suspension sfter being so used to riding a hardtail.

Here's a photo of my cracked Kula frame. It started cracking along the weld at the top tube seat tube juction.

Where did your Lava Dome crack? (I ride a '98 Lavadome frame with a 100mm Marz. fork)

Sorry, no pics of my perfect Kona :(

I've got the Kona to end all Konas, but unfortunately I don't have any pics yet. Here's the spec anyway:

2001.5 Stinky Five Rasta frame, 15"
    2004 Marzocchi Z.1 QR20Pro w/race axle
2004 WTB Dual Duty FR wheelset
    Profile Cro-Mo race cranks, 5-arm
    E.Thirteen STS guide
WTB Motoraptor 2.4 FR front, Mutanoraptor 2.4 FR rear tires
    Hayes Nine discs, 6"r/8"f
    Truvativ Holzfeller oversize bar/stem
    Chris King NoThreadset
    2004 XTR GS rear derailleur
    S&M platform pedals
    ODI Ruffian Lock-Ons
    WTB Rocket V Stealth saddle

The bike weighs in at 36 lbs even. Its weight surprised me because the cranks must weigh about 6 lbs alone. The colors of the frame mislead people into thinking that the bike's a joke, but then I kick the crap outta them on both the climbs and the downhills. I've also got 6" plates for it, but it's perfectly balanced right now at 5 and 5.

    My Vintage '92 Cinder Cone

In '93 I was in Juarez, Mexico at a second-hand shop and found this Kona for $90. I didn't know much about mountain biking, and had never heard of Kona before, but God, I loved this bike. There was also a Rock Hopper (I had heard of those) which my friend bought, but I could tell that the Kona was special. The sloped top-tube and flat stem helped lower the center of gravity and the bike really climbed well. Notice the cool Propulsion tire and the Joe Murray logos all over. I had no idea who Joe Murray was at the time, but I concluded that he knew how to make a pretty kick-ass mountain bike.

I kept riding this bike until about a year ago when the seat post fused into the frame and the bottom bracket gave out. The bike shop was unable to replace it (couldn't get the old one out). I upgraded to a newer Gary Fisher Ziggurat and in a moment of stupidity threw the old Kona frame in the garbage. I sure wish I had it back now, because I'm sure with enough effort I could have fixed it. Anyone out there have a '92 red Cinder Cone frame that they'd be willing to part with?

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER throw out a Kona. That is sacrilege

Besides that... The bike looks really cool!

New Coiler Dee-Lux frame to replace an 03 Heckler that is being examined by the factory. Having ridden single pivots for so long, I had no clue how laterally stiff a rear end could be! This thing is bomb-proof, the day after it was built up, it went to Snow Summit for two days of abuse. I've been riding it more than every other day for the last month! Love the matte-black finish & solid handling.

    Hey all! How goes it?

Lets see, Im 25...holy crap, when did that happen? Oh well. I call Washington state home. Ive been seriously riding for the last 5 years or so. I used to ride mostly XC, seeing how many miles I could get under my belt while keeping both wheels on the ground. That got a little boring though...I felt I was stagnating. So I started to try new stuff. Pushing the limits of what I thought I could do. Now I guess my riding resembles that of the freeride variety. I just love the feeling of learning something new, or landing a drop or jump that I once thought was impossible....

OK...so on to the bike. Its a 2000 Pahoehoe hardtail that is still going strong...despite the abuse Ive given it. I was going to say it's mostly stock, but I think Ive switched out most components as they have broken. Im on my 3rd BB, 2nd set of chainrings (almost 3rd), 2nd handlebar (the original snapped as I was pulling up on them, hoping off a curb), 3rd saddle, 2nd set of rims, 2nd cassette. Oh, the fork is leaking oil from a very bad place...so thats next on the reapir list.

    Peace

    My First Post!

Hello all, I figured this was a good way to break the ice. Here's a pic of my 2004 Cinder Cone. Just got it last week and love it. I'm ashamed to admit that the colour was the real reason I bought it.

Thanks, I'm not sure what you are saying though. That is the black/white color. That is the only color the coiler comes in, while the coiler dee-lux is straight black.

I never realized my bike looked different than the factory photo! They must have changed it to all white becuase Kona offers no choice in color. That is interesting though, I never noticed that.
