New fork, headset, and stem. Only things left to possibly change would be cranks -> XT, shifters -> X.0 and brakes -> Formula oro k24.

I thuoght the LS grips were crap (or was it the WTB ones?)

How much difference will a Thomson post really make though? I wouldn't think it would be a large performance difference, but for the bling factor it might be nice.

More than your King upgrade. I'm 6'1", 225, and have been called "Seat Post Killa" after snapping bolts on 3 stock IRD posts.

I don't think you've got that much weight on ya or do big drops, but for me it's better than riding with castration anxiety...

ok i agree with the thompson seat post... after you bend three cheap posts it will justify the price of one thompson that will never bend.

however nothing is cooler than the jackshit grip... i would replace this grip a thousand times before buying lockons... the jackshits are aesthetically the best grips you can buy and they work great too!

Once you run great grips you will realize the error of your ways. I look at the new Stinkys and Stabs and it makes me sad that Kona hasn't come up a serious grip for hardcore riding.

Hmmm, let's see: Given the build is very close to a stock '06 Kula Deluxe, I was expecting it
to be at least 0.3 lbs less than that bike's 24.9 lbs, as that's the difference in frame weights
between the Kula Deluxe's Easton ultralite frame and the Kula Supreme's scandium alloy
    i.e., expecting 24.6 lbs when I got 25.3 lbs.

The lighter parts (Sette stem and saddle, FSA 190 XC handlebars, Mythos XC tires)
compared to the stock KD are offset by the 440 g (0.96 lb) Thudbuster ST seatpost that's on
the pictured KS....Maybe I should take off the bike computer and the rear custom aluminum
rotor guard at the back (that weighs barely 20 grams)....

I wonder if taking the protective paper off the front shock stickers would help.....

    Or maybe I'm just

Of course, this weight was calculated with data on the weight-weenies site, not a
    physical weighing of the bike....

Well I weighed myself and then me + bike on the crappy bathroom scale and got a VERY rough reading of 24.5 lbs,
but that could be +/- 2 lbs on that stoopid scale....

Smile New Kona Owner and New to Boards

Hi all. I'm relatively new to regular riding, and have owned a 2006 Kona Kikapu Deluxe for all of two days. It's bone stock for now. It's my first full suspension, and my first clipless pedal bike, so I figure I have to get used to the basics before I worry about tweaking. In any event, I've enjoyed my first few rides. I've already gone down a couple of times, and both the bike and I made it fine. In any event, by way of background, I'm a 40 year old father of three who lives near New Orleans. I've owned a mountain bike for many years, but only this year have I taken up regular riding. I ride about 5 or 6 miles every morning on some gravel road and several small forest trails that branch off the gravel road. There's some twisty and deep sandy sections, a few bumps, and plenty of roots and ruts. I hope to contribute from time to time in this and other forums. In any event, I'll try and attach some pictures of my new bike. Thanks...

Bike manufacturer's weights aren't always accurate so I wouldn't always go off of that. Take it to your LBS and use their scale.

But whether it's 24.5lbs or 25.5lbs, you'll still have fun riding it. Don't obsess over weight too much...for example, my 38lb Coiler is way more fun to ride than my 23lb Rockhopper.

A freshly assembled Kona A+ (it's a 14 speed Rohloff hub rather than a SS, hence the +). So far I'm liking this bike, I get lots of gear range and lots of BB/chainring clearance. Not a featherweight FS bike, it tips the scales at 30.93 pounds with a 20" frame size, but the weight is all low so it handles nicely.

    2006 Kona Kula

Picked up my first Kona and finally getting back into the sport. Very happy with it so far except I dislike the foam grips and I can't seem to find where to get the rubber kona Jackshit grips in Canada. Swapped out the smaller clipless pedals to Shimano SPD324's so that i can have a platform to ride for more technical stuff until I improve (not shown).

    2006 Kona Leroi

    Hey everyone,

Looks like I'm jumping in a bit late. Cracked my '05 King Kikapu after I didn't take any pics, but here are some of my '06 Leroi. Sorry for the crappy pics, but hopefully I'll have time to take better ones soon!

Oh, btw, I'm Jason and I'm riding in Southeast WI, and Northeast IL.

Hey all Chiming in from New York here. This is my Freeride/Downhill bike 04 Kona Stinky that I've built up for a while. Bought it as a Complete bike but replaced parts as I needed to. Also for parts that I didn't like as well from the stock bike. I gotta say I love this bike best of all, it may be heavy but it makes bombing downhill so much more fun. Feels like the bike launches like a rocket and lands like cat. For as heavy as it is built up it feels so quick and easy to handle as well.

    Current mods as follows;
Truvativ Hussfelt cranks with E-13 Bashguard, E-13 DRS Chainguide, RaceFace Diabolus Stem 30.9, Matching Stem 50mm, Azonic Headlock, RaceFace Diabolus Seatpost, WTB Power-V seat, Marzocchi 66 VF fork 170mm travel, Azonic A-Frame Pedals, Azonic Outlaw II Wheelset, Hayes HFX 9 brakes with eight inch rotors, ODI Lock-On Rouge MX Grips, Maxxis Minion 2.7 ST tires, Shimano XT Drivetrain with Shortcage rear derailuer.

    Future Mods;
Dangerboy 8-inch travel rocker arm upgrade, Fox DHX 5.0 Rear Shock, E-13 SRS Chainguide RaceFace Diabolus Cranks, RaceFace Diabolus Headset.

    Time for swedish Kona...
Kona AA -94. Had it since it was new and we have had a lot of fun. The last years it's been used as a commuter but after a almost complete rebuild it's back on the trail again, now as AASS...

    These old Konas are beautiful

    Hello from SD

I don't have a pic of my latest bike. 06 Kona Dawg. Just bought it about 2 hours ago waiting til after work to pick it up. I'm pumped to finally own a fs Kona. I have an 97 Schwinn Moab that I'm turning into a single speed now.

I don't have any pics of it yet, way too new.

Can't wait for my first ride tonight!

    Later all,
    dc

Here is one pic of my Dawg. Nothin fancy, but way better than the old Schwinn I used to call my ride as I'm putting the number on for the Dakota 5-0 in Spearfish, SD.

Heh. It's a bit of the afterglow, I guess.

The Hoss has been a fantastic bike for me. Thinking of buying a Dawg Primo frame now, and switching over the parts to go full suss.

    Hey Phxartboy ,

    Nice and tidy build

Like you say, you need to upgrade the Kikapu to how you want it.

It would of been cheaper to buy a new Stinky, but wheres the fun in that

Hy, i'm Daniel from Israel. Got my Kona Dawg Matic '04 a few months ago.
Kona ROCKS, it's light and stout, perfect for wicked singletracks.
Also, i'm planning to upgrade, so any advices (fork, brakes, etc) would be great...
