    04 dawg matic

Recently aquired 04 Dawg Matic. Still waiting for the snow to melt to put it to test. So now it just sits as a nice piece of eye candy.

Well I'm from the UK, the county of Kent to be precise and have a 2k Kona Roast which I got, according to my Kona Owners card 28/10/00

    Frame - Roast (16")
Forks - Rock Shox Psylo SL
    Crankset - RaceFace Prodigy (isis)
    Bottom bracket - RaceFace Evolve
    Chain guide - e.13 MTX
    Pedals - DMR V8
    Chainring - RaceFace dh (36t)
Rear mech - Shimano M952 (shortcage)
    Shifter - Shimano XT M750
Wheels - Hope Bulb on Mavic 729s
Tyres - Maxxis Highrollers (2.35 ST)
    Stem - RaceFace Diabolous (50mm 25.4)
    Post - RaceFace Diabolous
    Bars - Kona OB
    Seat - SDG Freestyle
    Brakes - Hope Minis (185 and 165)

Wonderful bike to ride and have do a few disciplines on it from 4 Cross to XC, the latter being quite hard work. The headset needs replacing, still using the one that comes as stock which is going on 5 years old and getting quite notchy. Frame is looking a bit tatty (the stickers and chainstay are the worst due to some chain suck) so may look to get it re-sprayed soon.

    My '05 Kikapu Deluxe

Wooohoo she came in on Thursday and they had her ready by Saturday...
So I drove up to the bike shop (went to NH so I could avoid paying $80+ in taxes)
and picked her up. Thanks to a few people on the threads I swapped out the stock
tires (I probably wouldn't have noticed how bad they were) and had the shop put
    on some Michelins.

So here's a pic from today before I went out for a ride at the local state park.

    Eastern CT

    Hey CTKONA75,
I live in Eastern CT too and ride a 2004 Kikapu. I go riding at Bluff Point about 3 times a week but wanting to check out some of the other areas around. I'm 40 so probably couldn't keep up with a 29 yr old, but if you wanna go ride sometime, let me know.

    My family of fine Konas...

Howdy -- Here are shots of some of my Konas. I'm lucky enough to now have five of them in my basement, including:
    - 2005 King Kikapu -- purchased as a frame in January -- a darn fine ride!
    - 2005 Explosif -- purchased as a frame in December '04 -- my singlespeed, that's now set up with a 29" front wheel and a rigid fork.
    - 2005 Jake the Snake -- with a nice quarter-sized dent in the downtube after getting stepped-on during a race last fall... bummer.
    - 2004 Stinky Delux -- on loan from djcrb9.
    - 2004 Kula Delux -- currently not built up

I'm hoping to get a Kona freeride bike of my own soon so that I can give djcrb9's bike back to him. I rode a Coiler Delux around at a recent Kona demo, and it was very nice. The Stinky is heavier, but I love it's bombproof durability when I mess up a log ride or am taking big drops.

    Peace out,
    MG

The color shown in the '05 catalog, and on the Website just doesn't represent the color accurately. You bike is a 2005. Congrats!

Hm, that bike seems to be kind of an anomoly. Spec and decals show it to be a 2004, but that's a color we've never used on a Coiler. I'm pretty sure that's to color of last years' Shred. That just makes your bike all the rarer, congrats!

    Cheers,
    Joe.

I will probobly get allot of Cr@p for this but the rear der is a rapid rise. Rumor has it Shimano makes a Dura-Ace rear der that is rapid rise but I have yet to see one.

I went rapid rise on this bike because my freeride bike has a complete Saint kit on it (rapid rise)and I want all my bikes to shift the same.

I even have a brand new XTR rapid rise I am about to install on my Kona Dawg.

    2005 Explosif

Just finished building my Explosif yesterday afternoon, only rode it around the neighborhood but I'm digging it!
    Handling feels nice and tight,
Looking forward to this weekend to pour on some miles!
The only thing I don't like is the QR seat collar that came w/ the frame.

This has to be my favorite build. Though i will never be much of a jumper, I started with this frame becasue i like to do my own builds and i did not like the hoss.

    The build is as follow
    15.5 Cowan
04 Sherman Flick 20mm with 6 inches of travel(Thanks to a warrenty from the good folks at Manitou)
    LX Shifters
XT front and rear derailluer and 11-34 Cassette.
Truvativ 22/32/RG Crank and BB 170mm
    Wellgo B37 Platforms
Hand Built Mag 30's 36 hole Dimension front and Planet X rear
Thomson seat post and SDG Gran Prix Saddle.
    Salsa Seat Collar
    King Rasta headset.
Truvativ OS hussifelt 2 inch ride bar and Titec ElNorte 75mmX0 rise stem.
    BMW end caps, Ride-On Cable.
Hayes HFX 9's with 8 inch rotors and custom levers.
    Tioga White Tiger 2.5 pros.
Total weight 38 pounds and even at my weight i feel every bit of it.

BTW I am KNine and from the Seattle area. I Am thinking of moving to either Bellingham, If i hear that Kona is hiring a asst shipping mgr. or shipping mgr. Or Farmington New Mexico.

Ok, now that I truly have my bike here is a real-life shot of it's non-standard color:

As far as I can see, it has components listed for 2004 Coiler on www.konaworld.uk.com

Here's my Kikapu Deluxe with updated color scheme for '05. I have the rear pretty dialed in, the MX Comp has been a bit tricky to get right though. The RP3 is damn good, don't really notice that much power loss over my old hardtail. Just waiting for mud season to end here in the Burlington area, after that it's on.

    nice setup there tall boy!

i love my explosif too... wish i had your h-bars for mine! i don't know if i told you, but i just swapped out the 29" front wheel/rigid fork setup for an 80mm reduced-travel X-Vert Super. The 80mm fork dialed the headtube angle in for me. It handles like a cat now!

All I can say is that, if the rumors are true for '06, that 29-inch version of the Explosif will be freaking incredible! I can't wait to see if Kona ends up doing that in production.

Thanks for sharing the pics CB!

    2004 Kikapu updated

I have posted this bike before, but just upgraded the fork and wanted to load it again. I added a Rock Shox Duke Race to the bike. I like the way it looks and handles and all the adjustments (not to mention the 3lb savings over the stock fork). I have had this bike for a year now and still like it more every time I ride it. It will never do any major drops, but neither will I (getting older, bones take longer to heal). However, with the lockout set on the new fork, it climbs like a mountain goat.

    Plain and simple

This is one of mine. 1998 Kona Kiluaea, lost and found again. The only original part left is the frame itself. My friends are trying to convince me to go back to shocks, but htis bike handles the rough stuff surprisingly well.
