More upgrades to the Stinky. New SRAM rear, cassette, chain and shifters, and a tasty trans orange bash.

    Here is my 1996 Hot-rebuilt

Allan here from Michigan. Here is a photo of my 1996 Hot it is a size 16". I have owned it from day 1 and have maintained it very well. I just put the Fox 100 RL on it this past week along with an Avid BB7 and a disk wheel. The 100 RL came off of one of my other bikes and the front wheel is off of my wife's bike. This bike rocks with the 4" fork and I still love riding it! I hope you all like it.

Good point. Should have the corrected shortly, though. I considered buying an '06 rear triangle and seat stay, but found a great deal on a new '06 Coiler frame. IMHO, a nicer color match for the '07 Talas 36 RC2 fork than the Coilair green (same frame, though).

are you planning on keeping both bikes as this seems a better choice.

sort of puts the ultimate coiler project to shame really.

I just planned on swapping out the frame only, so keeping my "all-mountain build". However, I did conisder keeping the old frame for my beefier "bike park" build so not having to swap parts all the time, but decided to try something with a bit different geometry, i.e. Specialized SX trail. Longer wheelbase, lower standover & bottom bracket height, plus a bit more travel on a lower leverage shock setup.

The Coiler is still my do-it-all trailbike.

    Hi there,

First message on the MTBR forum! There is a lot of nice bike on that topic!

That's a picture from my 05 Stab, the last bike I owned. It received a new paintjob and a great choice of components.

    Greetings from South of France

    2004 Dawg Deelux

My name is Rob. I live in the Foothills of Colorado just outside of Boulder. I have owned this bike since new in the summer of 2004. I have learned from past mistakes if you find a bike you really like and it fits you well, don't sell it when you get another one. This is a keeper. The only thing I still want to change are the brakes.

Here is the list of parts:

    Mavic Crossmax XL wheel set
    Continental Vertical 2.3 UST
    Chris King headset
    Kool Stop brake pads
    A 2 Z brake rotors
    Raceface Deus stem
    Easton Monkey Lite carbon handlebars
    XTR shifters
    WTB Laser Stealth seat
    Raceface Next carbon seatpost
    Salsa Lip Lock seatpost clamp
    Raceface Deus crankset
    Raceface Diabolus bottom bracket
    Raceface bash ring
    Crankbrothers Candy SL pedals
    Sram PC 991 chain
XTR 952 rear derailleur Medium cage
    XTR cassette 11-34
Fork and Shock were modified by Push – Probably the best thing I did.

I changed these parts as parts broke or wore out. My goal was also to get this bike to a good weight and still have it be reliable. It is both. It weighs 28 ½ pounds.

    coile(air)

Hi I am Mike from Greece and this is my coil-air switched to coil
After 6 months of riding (and a broken talas 36) I decided that coil suits to my riding style better than air .
Upgraded with 66rc2x , Roco rc and a 20t chainring (in order to climb as well)
I have a pair of mtx rims and hope pro II hubs coming

That's hot... Coilair turned to coil. I did exactly the opposite with my setup. Not a very cheap upgrade eaither way you go, but that bike looks sweet with the Roco.

When I broke my talas 36 , I immediately bought the 66rc2x fork. It is really plush , it gives you more confidence at the technical stuff , It is just aim and shoot procedure . I have it at fast rebound (1/3 from the fastest) and all the compresion open . Where I ride we have a lot of rock gardens and not a lot of big jumps (we have no bike parks) .So riding on rocks was sweet with this fork , but my shock dhx air was a mismatch . Then I decided to go to coil and at the back so I got the roco . Now I fave the same predictable feeling at front and back , the bike will eat everything if you are confident enough . At small bumbs it has a responsive feel and in drops it doesnt catapult you . It is as i have an 66 at the back of the bike , it is the same feeling!!

With those changes the bike is heavier but it fits for my riding style better and it is reliable too.

No close ups, but here you go:

This was from last year, but we (my wife & I...some times I race hers) have two 04 King King Kikapus....the 05 Kula Primo was replaced with an 06 King, which has been replaced with a n 07 Hei Hei. This year I'll race on two 07 Hei Heis and the 04 King Kikapu. Also in the stable is an 06 Unit 2-9er, a Major Jake and an 94 King Kahuna which is still in the build process.

worked great as 1 bike solution there for me, shorter wheelbase of Coiler means you can ride aggressive XC, technical trails in the valley & its really good for the tight slow rooty DH switchbacks, too. Plus its easier to handle on the lifts than a pure DH rig, fer sure! Still, I'm dreaming about a new Stab next yr for those bigger drops & confidence on the real fast runs. On Coiler it gets rather sketchy, like when following friends on their Santa Cruz VPs, Spec. Demo 8s, etc.
Let me know after May what you're planning as for W. I'm 5 hrs away in Seattle area,
Bellingham, WA area is very cool, too, w/ great Shore-type stuff there on Galbraith Mtn. Later.

Hi my names Brett from the sunny(not) UK, take a few trips over the year to Wales and the Lake District. Mainly ride a local trail down by the river and ride 8m to work each day. Hopefully going on an exotic 2 week biking holiday this year with some mates. Not sure where yet. Women beer and rough trails are the order of the day, or should that be rough women - anyway who cares

I ride a 98 Kona King Kikapu wich has evolved into a tank over the years and I love her. Rides like a dream. Im looking to get a Stinky frame and build that up to. Just need to find a decent 2nd hand one.

    Heres the setup gumph...

98 Kona King Kikapu frame (Easton Elite 7005 Ally)
Custom Metalic Tangerine glow paint job
Pace RC41 XCAM CF 06 Hollowform Forks
    XTR Chainset
    XTR Rear Mech and cassett
    XTR rear V
    XT Front Mech
    Sachs chain
    Hope Mini Mono front disk
    Ti Seat calmp
    Fizic Nizeny(SP?) Ti saddle
    Easton MonkeyLite CF bars
RaceFace sYstEm stem (Just ordered a Thompson Elite)
    Hope Headset
RaceFace XY seat post (Just ordered Thomson Elite to go with stem)
    XT Shifters
    Shimano m959 pedals
    Mavic 819 tubeless rims
    Hope skewers
    Michelin XcR UST rubber
Custom forged rear swinger with travel adjustment (Also have a chrome set)
    Yeti lockon grips
    XTR cables
    Fox Float RL rear shock

Sorry about the lights on the bike, kinda breaks up the lines but I had just got back from work and it gets pretty dark at 6AM here in the UK in winter time

    Have fun!
