Awesome for recreation, especially if there is some commuting in the mix.

If you start spending more time on the trails, or start riding harder, then figure a new fork, then new brakes, then new cranks. The Kahuna is trail worthy, and then some. I recommend it, so you can have something that will hold up in the long run and for the "worst case" trail.

If you dropped down to 26" wheels (commuting would take more effort to ride far), a Blast would get you Kahuna quality for Mahuna price.

Kona seems to skip to the good stuff really quick, but other manufacturers will have a $1000 29er with only modest compromises (maybe more appropriate to your needs, unless you are a clydesdale or just prefer the better quality with the Kahuna's part spec).

Way over priced. Pay about $600 for a bike like this.

If you are looking for a different bike I would suggest a fork with 32mm stanchions for a 29er. I don't know if it really matters but I would think you need a little more strength with such long forks.

    Here's one.

    2012 Trek Mamba 29er
    Shimano M446 hydraulic disc brakes
    RockShox XC32
    Shimano Alivio shifters

I suggest you look for the 2011 bikes from all the big brands now 30% off.
