Kona Satori question - rear tyre fit?

Hi there and happy 2012 to everyone on this forum!

I am thinking of getting a Kona Satori and one of the issues I would love to clarify is the rear wheel space for a chunky AM tyre. Currently the bike comes with a Ardent 2.4 up front but only a 2.25 at the back.

I'm not sure if Kona did this because of the short chainstays (17.3) and a lack of space. I'd love to know from anyone who knows or has ridden this bike, if there's room to fit a burlier tyre out the back as I'd like to go with something bigger in the rear than a 2.25 tyre for AM riding.

I have a Satori and it looks like there is plenty of room back there for a bigger tire. I had the same concern as you before I bought it so I emailed Kona tech support and here is their response:

"It just might, I only had one here for a couple days but it had huge clearance.

That is a big tire to pedal though, that's' why we just spec it on the front of that model."

I have only been able to ride it a few times but I love it so far. I will be putting a bigger tire on myself in the spring as I wasn't impressed with the traction of the 2.25 Ardent.
