Celebrating 20 years with my '94 Kona Kilaeua

It was about this time 20 years ago that I bought my first good mountain bike, a new 1994 Kona Kilaeua. Prior to that I had been a road racer for several years and had a low quality mountain bike for commuting. Little did I know how much that Kona would change my life- the road bikes have been collecting dust ever since. The Kona opened up a new world of challenges and exploration and I have been mountain biking regularly ever since. I've owned many bikes over the years but this is the one I'll never let go of. Here's a photo from last year in nearly original condition:

And here's a photo taken a few days ago in single speed mode with a few other upgrades:

This bike has has filled many roles in many configurations over the years- hardtail race bike, commuter, family day tourer with trail-a-bike attached, and single speed which I'm really digging these days.

Just thought I'd share a great bike by a great company ridden hard by a mediocre rider for 20 years. Looking forward to another 20 years of sweat, pain, and ear-to-ear grins!
