So tell me it's true - the Shonky can do the job of a dedicated trials bike? Must... Get... Cash...

More like a park/ street/ dj bike. you'll need to change cogs ratio for trial use (trial is more like 18:16 ratio, jump is 32:18)

I assumed I'd have to change the gearing, but the geometry would work well? It visually seems pretty well set up for it.

Are you talking about trails as in dirt jumping, or biketrials? For dirt jumping it should be good, as it's designed for it, but for trials - no way. Go to e.g. www.tartybikes.co.uk to see what a trials bike looks like nowadays.

Its kona gone BMX but if a guy I know can do comunting(to work and back) with a stinky... then I guess you can do xc with a shonky, but get a suspesion fork first.
If it ain't broken... why the hell you fixin it!

    KONA rules!!

If you miss the tranny... don't look down.

I'm going to beat this dead horse and bump
I have been very interested lately in this offering from kona. I took it for a spin and it rode very well, so easy to flick around.
I have a few questions before I dive in and buy the thing:
Does anybody have any experience with it?
How does the ride on a rigid fork compare to the ride on suspension (a la shonky vs cowan) ---> Im mostly in to riding park and urban, and not huge dj's

    thanks for the info
