Keep in mind that particular crankset doesn't use the normal 110/64 bolt pattern, it's something funky. So if you need to ever replace the rings you'll probably have to pay a fortune for Shimano ones, or if you ever want to single ring it up front, finding a non-ramped ring might be hard.

Just FYI. I looked into these in the past if you can't tell.

I didn't realize it was so different from the XT.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I picked up a set of Race Face Chester with a 32 tooth ring, and 12-36 cassette.

Anyone know the spacer configuration for installing the bb in a single ring setup?

Dependes on your frames designed BB width (68mm, 73mm, or 83mm) and the width of the cranks you picked out.

I figured since this was a Chili thread, folks would know its a 73mm BB width. I actually spoke with Knolly recently, and they said a 2.5mm spacer on the drive side is all I need for the BB. So I'm good, thanks.

What bolt's did you use? Dis you use the original 8.5 mm bolts or did you had to go and get shorter 7 mm bolts?

I'm looking into converting an FC-M670 to single ring.

And can you please post a picture of the backside?

    Thanks.

You can use the original bolts since they are too long , when I bought my chain ring I also purchased the single speed bolts . I forget exactly what size they are but just make sure they are the single speed ones and I made my purchase thru Universal Cycles.

My bike is all built up so I don't have any back side shots of it , but they sit very flush , nothing is in the way , and everything lines up just fine .

Since I read that some people had to file the granny ring threads to fit it with a chain-ring.
Looking at alternatives, I think I'm gonna go with single ring + Bash ring, So I think I won't need shorter bolts, But will purchase them, just in case.

You just need the proper crankset and you wont have any issues.. This is why i went with the 3x10 crankset so i can properly set it up as a 1x10 or you can go spiderless and not have an issue as well . These are the bolts i used ( Single Black )

I think that those are the 7 mm ones. Thanks. I'd go with the spiderless but those cranks are to expensive. SLX is for me (Plus I really like the 2013 look, they are just awesome, much prettier than XT IMO, they go great with Saint pedals).
