    Mini Goat Camp North

So I've got this hill just across town that has some nice, steep, rocky, south-facing slopes that melt off reasonably fast after snow. Max elevation loss is around 1500 ft but the only problem is that there's only 2 or 3 trails coming off the face. The climb is either FR or HAB but for a techy chunk fix in the winter it's well worth the effort.

So the other day I went exploring another ridge to see if I could find a new route to fulfill my stanchion scraping, chain stay gouging, butt puckering, chunk fix.

How does this terrain look for a mini Goat Camp North?

Is that decomposing granite? Fun to ride, not fun to crash on, and tires last about a day on that. Looks fun!

If a trail looks steep and gnarly on a pic, it is.

    That looks close to unrideable.

Worse. Decomposing limestone. Very sharp. In fact I slice tires fairly often up there (today). My climbing buddies call it piranha rock.

Perfect! If it looks like there's no way through and it's nie unrideable then it's Goat Camp worthy terrain.

There is a way through there but you gotta zig zag. It's definitely not a straight shot.

I have to build a rock ramp or move a huge boulder to get and entrance into this jigsaw puzzle. I just wanted to make sure the terrain was worthy.

That van is headed south today. Time to get some riding done. The winter job didn't work out so well.

LOL. Right! Accidentally posted the wrong picture. Yeah these gravel bike paths around here are pretty tame. My non-riding wife cruises right up there on her old GT Palomar.
