Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

    I blame the helmet...

Although, it helps to keep both hands on the steering wheel. I bet he wishes he was grabbing a hand full of rear brake, instead

Seriously, that is Calhoun's "signature" one-hander.

We just climbed up the waterfall that day on our way to Geronimo and Cochise (which is much more difficult than National IMO.

I think they are going back up national to session the WF today. I had a long drive so missed today's ride .

Good times. Really really great folks to ride and hang out with.

Special thanks to Brandon (tiSS'er) and his family for hosting and to Kevin (Dusty) and to Noel for the swag.

Most of us at least attempted to pedal up it but think only Ronnie got close. I've seen people climb the whole thing in video before so I know it's theoretically possible but it was even more impressive to see to see in person even though he didn't quite make it. I think that 90 deg right turn right at the very top spoiled it. I could barely make it over the first (and smallest) ledge after three attempts.

What combination of power, tech skill, determination, and luck it would take to do it is beyond me.

Mad props Ronnie. And thanks again for the Ronnie Ring.

What you may not know is that he broke/badly damaged a couple fingers on the first OTB on Cochise and was riding with them taped and....um "medicated" down Goat Camp when this one occurred.

I can't believe he attempted GC at all, let alone cleaned most of it and threw himself at several of the worst sections repeatedly in order to get it dialed. Mad props, Rory. Good meeting you and riding with you.

Thanks for hanging back while I thew myself repeatedly at that last Cochise switchback until I got it right. Talk about Ground Hog Day! Sheesh, what a spaz. LOL.

i've also seen @least one video of some local making it. mind boggling really. i've been to SOMO twice & both times never even thought about attempting any of the WF climb.

the first time i did National i was by myself & forgot a crucial bit of info.took the left instead of the right. the right being continueing on down the last part of Nat. or left & ending up going down 24th St.. when i read that TiSSer was taking you guys UP 24th, well that just seemed cruel. i've never seen any video of climbing 24th, but have read that @least a few locals consider that a rewarding, "fun" climb! anybody get vids of attempts of climbing @least some of 24th? sounds like maybe that Ronnie character would have gone for some rewarding fun. or the guy who had the up 24th idea in first place

For sure. Not everyone likes that kind of thing but I enjoy it.

There's all but a couple of places on 24th ST that I think I could clean given enough time and willingness to burn the energy on multiple attempts.... but on a long, multi-day multi-ride trip like this one, energy reserves are a precious resource and you must pick your battles.

Some sections I attempted, and if I got close I tried again.

Same with Kiwanis which we climbed that afternoon (after the 24th ST climb). Not as steep overall but plenty of steps and challenging sections. I hung back on this one with another couple of like minded individuals and threw myself at several of the tech sections that I thought I could clean given enough attempts. Some I did, some I didn't.... but by time I got up to the road, I was gassed.
