FSA ORBIT XTREME PRO HEADSET installation

I am familiar with Chris King headsets, but decided to mix it up a bit and go with the FSA this time as that is what was spec'd on the Endorphin. Anyway, now I'm about to mount my fork and I see the crown race, which looks normal, but there's another piece; a split compression ring, and I'm not sure exactly what to do with it.

this is what I found at the FSA website:

The design incorporates a split compression ring to maintain even and permanent adjustment and preventing the headset from coming loose or knocking even after countless miles of rough riding.

my question is: does the compression ring snap in below the crown race before intstall, or is it something less obvious???

It seats inside the bearing on the top cup.

    from fork up:
    race
    seal
    bottom cup
    top cup
split compression ring inside top cup
cover (prob has a tech name)
    stem
    top cap

    Hope this helps.
