Climbs and descends great with FSR linkage. I believe the fork travel is best @ 140,150mm max. You should check on what length would void warranty first before purchasing/installing.

thanks man, just a couple of questions how much travel fork are you using on your xct?, i buy the xct 525 im looking at the rear shock and i see that is no lock up only rebound adjust( is the x fusion), i think you have the 555 (it comes whit rock shox) do you use the lock up in hard climbs? and what kind of riding you use the xct? thanks.

Mine came with the Rock Shox 2.1. Going to possibly upgrade to 3 or 4 Monarch series or a Fox if one is dialed for this type fsr susp frame.

I am running a 130mm (+5") Float as that is what I had. More XC feel with it but pretty much that's my riding. Have a 650B front wheel to put on that will raise/slacken things abit. Not planning to go to a bigger travel fork unless I come across a good deal, as this is my secondary bike.

New pic with a few changes made to my 555 recently. Syncros Mental Alloy Pedals, Raceface EvolveDH riser bars and Kore 65mm stem. Also got tired of using the camelbak on every ride so I added a water bottle rack with a couple of zip ties. Works real good.

Yes I would like to know as well; I'm eyeing a 2009 KHS XCT-525, but I haven't heard much about them, nor seen any in depth reviews...

I NEED to get a bike soon, but the prices people are bidding for USED (see no warranty usually), older bikes is insane(!)... What is going on here?!

    My review.
    The XCT525
Very light, nimble, and quick. Please note that mine is different because it is a custom build.
That being said the frame is a good, light weight start. If I had to start over again with my build I wouldn't change the frame for the world.
I do not experiance any pedal bob whatsoever on uphills. Downhills are amazing. I've read alot of bad reviews about the rear rock shox. I put on a Fox fork in front. To be honest, I like the rear shock just as much as I like the front. The rear shock is perfect for me - a weekend warrior that rides 3-4x a week and doesn't hit 6 ft jumps.

I get complements all of the time on the look of the bike. For the money, I think the KHS525 is a steal. I bought my frame for $299 brand new!

As you can see, I have nothing but good things to say. I have yet to experiance any negatives. I did change a couple things out on my build to fix certain rider preferences, but that's it.

Good luck with your quest to find a new bike; but do NOT overlook the KHS>

I have a XCT535 frame with 555 components. With upgrades though, new fiber bars and seatpost, 1x9 drivetrain with shimano XTR derailer and shifter, stroker ace brakes, rides great. Looking for a new shock thought I have the rockshox monarch 3.1 and i dont like it because it doesnt have a lockout, and suggestions on a good shock?

Those of you that have swapped in other rear shocks, can any of you tell me the eye to eye length, and stroke?

    Thanks!

EDIT: more digging shows me it appears to be a 7.5 x 2 for the shock. Anyone able to confirm?

The shock is 7.5 X 2.0. Depending on the model, you may be able to reuse your mounting hardware. For example, the RS Bar uses the same 12mm as the Manitou shocks and the older X-Fusion O2 series. The RS Monarch uses the same 1/2" as all Fox, the RS Vivid, newer X-Fusion O2, and I believe most Marzocchi.

    Mark,
I'm 5' 7.5"..155lbs... , I go with small a frames cause its easier to play around, jumps, drop, etc.. or to put it simpler, agile, nimble.. and i like this bike because of the very low standover.. and equipped it with the parts for a bit of abuse.. planning to get a dh frame also in small.. (although i can ride a medium) and some manuals/i-net/bikeshops/friends say that my height is for medium, id prefer going one size smaller..and for me fits me well.. it depends on personal preference..

If you want a play type bike I think you can also go with a small but I'm not sure.... you're knees might hit the handle bar in a sitting position..(maybe a longer stem?) cause a friend(5'10") tried my bike he's knees were on the bars... maybe you should try out your buddies medium and small bikes to get the feel.. but i think small will do specially if you prefer more time standing on your pedals.. its guess its more on your riding style and the trail/park you will often ride it...

But if your going lots of miles in a day(XCs/ long trails) definitely a medium...
    well, thats my POV... thanks
(i'm not allowed to reply in PMs yet)

I picked up a used 2008 KHS 555 XCT pretty cheap a while back ($600) with a ~6mo old 150mm sektor fork. I like the bike a lot, my other bike is a steel 29er HT. I went for a 5 hour ride the other day, and never really wished it had a lockout on the rear, maybe if i was racing on it, but its not light as built (31 lbs). It has a steeper geometry than modern 140mm bikes (69 degree HT)- it makes a great long legged cross country bike (I'm assuming the XCT stands for cross country/trail, a perfect description). It isn't slack enough to truly rip downhills, but it climbs way better than its slacker brothers. It doesn't feel like an all mountain bike, it rides more like a trail bike, fairly nimble and quick.

its a great all-around bike, more comparable to modern 120mm travel bikes in geometry, but can take bigger hits. its my all day, epic ride bike of choice. at some point, i might try something else- a pivot, turner, etc, but this bike isn't going anywhere anytime soon, except for some long, fun rides.

FWIW, i have a large frame, 90mm stem, 720mm bars, 150mm fork, XC rims. switching to some MTX33's, will see how that changes the attitude of the bike. I don't plan on dumping a bunch of money into this bike to lighten it up- its not my race bike.

Hi, I just my 2009 xct 535 frame and bought new parts to complete the bike but my question is I bought a fsa bb30 crankset for 50 bucks on eBay but I felt I was so stupid that I bought it not knowing if it will fit or not. Can you guys let me know what to do if it will not fit? I'm expecting the. Crankset to arrive next week though.

Oh it's been in 650B dress before. I have a Ventana El Bastardo 650 bike now tho. I was thinking about decommisioning an old worn out alum ht that's been 650'd and putting the XTC back together with those parts. But decided to get another ht frame and throw the wheels and components on it.

I'm going to be selling the KHS frame and Fox Float RLC 130 if you know of anyone that might be looking to build a nice trail bike setup.
