    used dakar or parker?

there is a dakar and a parker in the LBS for sale the parker for 600-700 and the dakar for 600 i believe the parker is pretty much stock besides for a rear vanilla coil and im like 99.999% sure that the dakar is 100% stock. which do you guys think would be a better option? ill be able to get better specs/pics saturday possibly. my favorite trail right now is high mountain preserver but in the spring ill definitely be going to other trail areas in northern NJ and the surrounding area

Do you plan to ride more xc or more everything? If xc go with the Dakar if a little of everything and maybe hit up Diablo the go with the Parker as it is more versitile.

The parker is a more beefy bike (but heavier), and will handle more of the trails in NJ. I ride an XLT, which is a very similar frame to the parker except 5.0 inches in the rear and had a Dakar. The Dakar is good at single-track, but I don't recommend it at Diablo. What year is the parker? There were some troubles in the jamis line in 2008.

i know about the issue in 08 and it is an 08 but he had the rear triangle replaced by jamis under warranty so it should be ok i would think...the one thing with the parker is that it is more customized for him, and hes got a rear coil on it bc i think he rly only rode it at diablo

I have an AIR Manitou Swinger for my 05 XLT, it will fit right on the parker, reducers and all. You can come and get it for free if you'd like, I'm right off exit 135 on the GSP.

I've owned the XLT and I have a Parker. I used to think they were similar too, but they're pretty far from it. The standard Dakar frame is closer to the XLT than the Parker. The Parker linkage ratio is 2:1 for a more supple ride that feels like more than 4". The frame is beefier than the XLT all over. All of the bearing in mine (2010) are for 10mm hardware. (skateboard bearings) That's almost 2x bigger than the XLT bearings.

Not being disagreeable, but I just wanted to express my surprise and how pleased I am at how much beefier my Parker is than the XLT.
I get my boards at Lux-RC.com

i agree, for the $ the Parker is a great buy.
Consequences dictate our course of action and it doesn't matter what's right. It's only wrong if you get caught.
