I was checking that out for a friend.

Does anyone know at what level on the '05 Dakar line the frames change? I know the pro and expert have carbon chainstays, but is the weight difference in the lower models from components or is there a frame difference? A friend of mine wants to get back into riding and if the frames are the same, the Dakar XC would be a great starting point for him if the frame is solid and the components are the culprit for the weight. Anyone have any insight?

SSteve, sorry to hijack the thread, but it looked like you were just getting the word out anyway.

There is a frame difference once you go below the Dakar XC expert, but I believe it is just the chainstays going to aluminum. Hope that helps.

the dakar and dakar sport are just plain 7005 alloy, XC comp is Kinesium front, 7005 rear, Expert and pro are the same as the comp but with carbon seatstays.
