    Chain stay problems??

So I am waiting for delivery of my first bike, a 2009 XAM 2. Ordered through Jensonusa. I have read a couple of posts regarding cracking chainstays on this model. Does anybody know if this is a problem with 2009 or was it the 2008?

How do I know if the chainstay cracks? Do I inspect after each ride or is it a matter of the bike folding up and I go to the ground?

Lastly, If covered under warranty do you know if Jamis has a supply of XAM 2 frames or do they substitute a different frame, this would no longer make it an XAM 2. Am I correct

    Thanks.

2009s are not prone to this problem... i have the xam 1 which hasnt had a single issue with the chain stay and this include 6+ ft drops. as far as rear triangle replacements, the rear triangle on the xam 1 and 2 are completely the same. the difference between the bikes is solely components. jamis has plenty of rear triangle pieces for warranty regardless of years the bike was made

You are OK with the '09 as there have been no reports of breakage.

Appreciate the info. BTW: How do you know when your chainstay cracks? Instabilty, total collapse or visible crack?

highly likely that if its cracked, it will be visible.. a small crack can go un-noticed in the stability. regardless of make of bike, its always good to inspect the bike over to check for cracks and such. alot of people have had problems with the 08s but i havent had a single problem with my 09. and ive abused the living cheese wizz out of it

Or this can happen. This is the 2008 that I bought from Jenson this year.

when you crack your stay, you will know haha. The '08s had a metallurgical issue from what I understand. The dropouts were bad.

Get an 09, if you really want beef- get the 2010. That bastard is built tight.
