    2008 Jamis Dakar XCR Comp form Jenson

    Jenson USA has a 2008 Jamis Dakar XCR comp for $999. I am considering buying it but I would like to get some opinions on it first. The other bikes I am also considering a Giant Anthem X3 $1800 (although this is a little out of my budget which is why I am looking at the Jamis) and a 2010 Gary Fisher Mamba 29er ($900ish.) I think the Dakar is a nice fit in between the 2 but is it a good bike? Here are the specs for the Jamis:

    Frame

    * Kinesium aluminum
    * XCR mp3 suspension platform
    * 100mm of travel

    Rear Shock

    * Fox Float R
    * Air adjustable
    * Adjustable rebound

    Front Suspension

    * Rock Shox Recon 351 U-Turn
    * Adjustable travel 85 - 135mm
    * Lockout
    * Adjustable rebound

    Components

    * Shimano XT Shadow rear derailleur
    * Shimano LX rapid fire plus shifters 27 speeds
    * Deore crankset w/ octalink bottom bracket
    * Shimano hydraulic disc brakes 160mm rotors
    * Easton EA30 handlebar
    * EA30 stem
    * EA30 seatpost
    * WTB Rocket V Comp saddle
    * Shimano 505 clipless pedals

    Wheels

    * Mavic XM117 disc rims
    * Shimano Deore hubs
    * Maxxis Ignitor tires

    I'd read through this whole Jamis section if I were you. The 08's have been having some frame issues. The 09s/10s seem to be alright though.

    I own this bike and haven't ran into any problems with it yet. I really like it in fact, though I did upgrade the brakes, rotors, shifters, pedals, and plan to upgrade the crankset. The original parts had no problems.
